Do you live in Littlehampton?

If so what's it like to live there? We want to move to the coast, to a town with plenty to do for two children aged 8 and 13. Littlehampton looks nice on paper, but I'd love to hear from people who live there.

My nan lived there for years. It's a pretty little town. Close to the beach with seaside attractions and arcades.
I quite liked it and of nan had not had a stroke I'd have probably moved there myself.

I had a relative who moved there and lasted 6 months. They said it was boring, run down and more of a town for elderly people.

It feels quite rundown like a lot of seaside places but it has decent rail connections and houses are much cheaper than other places in the area

Grew up there and escaped, as did my parents who moved nearer to Chichester the moment they stopped paying my school fees and could afford to. Mum taught at the god-awful school LHS, it's now an academy and she has nothing positive to say about it.

There are nice bits <tries to sound less down on her hometown> it's had a lot of pimping up over the years, not sure it's fundamentally changed it from a slightly seedy south coast seaside holiday town into something nicer.

If you can afford Rustington it's nicer but still elderly population, Worthing has a bit more life to it but is cheaper than going near Brighton. Going to other way towards Bognor can get tricky to get a balance of 'lively' and 'asbo' 😂

We love Shanklin on the Isle of Wight, is it like that? I don't mind a bit quiet, it has a theatre and cinema so there must be stuff to do. I just want to be by a beach and not too far from London.

Littlehampton is OK, the beach is nice when the tide goes out, and lots to do for kids. Also right next to Arundel which is beautiful. Worthing (15 mins away) is much nicer but depends on your budget as Worthing is more expensive.

In what way is Worthing nicer? Obviously we will go visit the area but it's good to get an inside track.

Worthing has had a lot of regeneration over recent years, and lots of families are moving out of Brighton to worthing as its the next decent town along the coast which is still cheaper than brighton. Lots of nice cafes/restaurants, money being pumped into the beach and parks and pier. Good amenities for kids (splash pad and splashpoint). Very good schools. I don't think littlehampton has reached that point yet of being 'gentrified' if you see what I mean, still a bit of a run down seaside town.

It does mean that house prices in Worthing are going up quite quickly though.

Thanks. That's helpful.
