Do you know anyone who gets paid to do so little?

I have a friend who works for a cyber security firm working from home.

He does two hours of work a day, then will go about and do as he pleases. His boss knows he's waiting on more work and are very relaxed about it.

He is paid £45k a year and graduated three years ago.

Does anyone know anyone else who has a similar job and what do they do?

Sure, footballers get paid a lot (well, some do some are in good but not amazing money).

My friends husband has double training sessions 4/5 days a week, plus match day. They don't get Christmas Day off because there's always a Boxing Day match, etc.

So yes they are well paid, but from my experience they also put the hours in, hours at the gym every day whether you want to or not, and so on.

That's quite insulting to say they put in a lot of hours. I've not seen my husband since July due to work he's high up in the military but every month we are behind with the bills.

Perhaps you are spending too much then if is high up but you are still behind.

My job ebbs and flows; sometimes really busy, sometimes not. Different people work differently though. I'm the sort of person who, when given a task, will do it until it's done. Other people...procrastinate.

There are definitely people who refuse to take short cuts. I once worked with someone who worked very long hours, well over her contract. When i covered for her holiday i could easily do her work and mine and have time left over! When a new online ordering system came in she refused to use it, preferring to continue to phone in an order, god knows why. She'd also print out every single email and file it!!

In another job someone was showing me how to upload files to a website we used. The files were sent via email. Instead of dragging and dropping the files to her desktop, she opened each attachment and used 'save as'.

If you don't seem to have as much to do as your colleagues, chances are you're just more efficient. And not afraid to try new ways of doing things.

I think sometimes you are paid for the responsibility as well.
If DH didn’t know what he was doing he could crash 2 massive government systems that would have huge consequences

My Dh works 9-5 and earns a vast salary- but then again if he gets it wrong he will be in prison for 25 years

Thanks for posting this thread OP, and others who have mentioned the value of experience. it has massively cheered me up ! I have been feeling unsure of myself at work lately and doubting myself, despite the fact I have 20 years of experience . I veer between being busy and longing for some downtime, to feeling guilty if I find myself with not a lot to do! I am going to enjoy the quiet times and downtime from now on and will actively seek to do less 😁

I do very little acual work. I'm paid to make decisions in my area of expertise so I feel I get paid for my expertise rather than hours. I'm a toxicologist.
