Anything with Prof Brian Cox in it. You tube oddly satisfying.

I do audiobooks. I know u said u have tried everything. But I just wanted to say. I use those. Put them on a timer. Since then I have been falling to sleep better. I close my eyes. And instead of then 1000000 thoughts entering my head I listen to the words.

Freshnewstarttoday · 20/09/2022 10:56

Any particular audio books paranoid ?

Another vote for audiobooks, or any 'talking' radio. BBC Sounds have loads.

DH finds it impossible to fall asleep listening to something he is interested in. For me, I find anything I really want to hear works well, a second or two and I drop off. I much prefer listening than watching because I drop off my sooner when I start with my eyes closed.

Hope you find what works for you.

The content isn't great for before bed but Laurence Olivier's voice in the world at war is very soothing and always sent me to sleep.

I find easy USA shows also easy to sleep to eg friends, Simpsons, modern family.

They guy who narrates Air Crash Investigation also has a soporific voice but again only if you can stomach the content. (There are some where no one dies)

BBC world service on R4

I watch/listen to ASMR every night, not everyones cup of tea but thats what sends me off.

Repair shop
QI repeats
Smithsonian channel

All good TV, but gentle. You can close your eyes and 'listen' without needing the pictures.

BBC Parliament House of Lords debate(s).
About anything, really.
Works wonders for me.
(I used to be a proper insomniac as well)

I fall asleep to podcasts. Usually noble blood.

I read an Agatha Christie recently to see if I'd like (I didn't) that sent me to sleep. I read it through to the end only because it was making me drift off after a few pages. It was great. (Murder in Mesapotamia). Really boring. 💤

If you've tired good sleep hygiene, you'd know TV is a really bad idea. Try to find a radio station, make sure your phone is in flight mode, maybe turn off your router if it's near to where you sleep
