Am I doing soup right?

Left-over veg and potatos from roast dinner along with some chicken and the bones. Cooking juices added and veg stock. Currently boiling down and will then mash/remove bones before whizzing.

Is this right? DH thinks it will just be like baby food 🤔

Your DH is right. That's a recipe for "Sunday lunch" baby food.

You need to make stock first then add your veg take the bones out see how thick it is before blending so you don't get that baby food consistency .

That's what I did - boiled the stock then added the veg/chicken and juices.

Do I need to add more liquid?

Yes you probably need more liquid

gwenneh · 19/09/2022 19:26

Then it'll just be runny baby food.
Unless you leave the chicken & veg whole, the whole thing is puree.

Isn't that what soup is?!

MadMadMadamMim · 19/09/2022 19:28

Don't blend. You need chunks to give it some bite. If it's too chunky you can always just use a potato masher.

It sounds like you made the stock with potatoes in is that right? If so, you did it wrong, sorry.

You need to boil the bones with stock veg like onion, leek, carrots, then strain that off, throw the bones and veg, and add your soup ingredients.

A fully puréed soup is fine, though, but it's personal preference as to whether you like that or a chunky one.

Add more liquid. Also tell ‘DH’ to cook his own bloody soup if he doesn’t like yours.

for a blended creamy soup, I often add milk or cream at the end. And some new herbs (e.g. parsley) to make it feel fresh rather than redone dinner.
