Using credit in energy account

Hello,

So I have credit in both my gas and electricity accounts . About 3 x what I pay each month has accumulated in both accounts. I'm short for money this month and was wondering if I could ask the energy company to take the money from the credit rather than paying the bill?

No idea if this is a possibility or not ? Anybody done this before ?

I'll phone tomorrow and ask ...

Thanks 😊

I'm not sure, but asking them to refund the credit might be an easier solution.

Or part of the credit

Yes just ask them to refund the amount you want, back into your bank account.

I’m with Octopus and I can make this request on my online account.

You will need to pay your DD. But you can afk them to refund all your credit if you want. It's your money not theirs

Can you lower your direct debit for a few months and let the credit go down?
I can amend my direct debit online with Octopus

I’ve found it really difficult to get refunded credit so I’ve moved supplier then been refunded. Npower and bulb to name and shame.

You should be in credit at this time of year though with an energy account. That's how they work. You pay the same every month but use less over the summer for when you use more over the winter. By all means you can ask for it back but you could be storing up issues in the winter when your bills will be higher and you haven't got that credit to fall back on.

You can ask for a refund - different companies have different systems. But as pp said, you should be in credit - you're using less because it's summer, and the credit pays for your heating and the other extras in winter.

If you use some of that credit, your direct debit will need to increase, so that you are at £0 after the winter.
