Why is Frugi everywhere?

Don't get me wrong some of their stuff is nice enough but trying to shop online for my children's winter clothing is getting quite boring now- every major brand including supermarkets seems to be mostly selling them.
I know the answer is just scroll by and I do but it's not even as if they're reasonably priced, they're so expensive!

That’s good to hear! I buy frugi in the sales and can see why it’s so popular. I like it because it’s good quality and I don’t want my kids to be walking gender stereotypes.

I went to Matalan yesterday and it was all incredibly sexist and limiting. A huge section of impractical pastel clothes ‘for girls’. A few rows of dinosaur sludge ‘for boys’.

Cowhen · 19/09/2022 15:18

Their fabric feels so nice! Couldn't justify buying it new for budget reasons, but SIL often orders us new stuff for gifts.

BuffaloCauliflower · 19/09/2022 15:23

@Cowhen if you’re on Facebook there’s some great Frugi second hand selling groups

@RobynNora agree with you on the pastels and Dino sludge offering most places

I got a frugi top for my daughter, given to us second hand. It was her favourite, it was so much softer than other tops. Nice thick cotton. She lived in it. I gave it away when she outgrew it and it looked the same as when we got it. They are really good quality.

They hold their value well when selling on on ebay.

@Thisismyusername1 I buy a lot of Duns, Maxomorra, Toby Tiger and Little Bird, plenty of bright and funky stuff out there if you know where to look. I know I won’t have many years of choosing my children’s cloths fully so I’ll enjoy it while I can!

The vast majority of high street offerings are boring, repetitive and so heavily gendered, but wanting something more creative does come with a price hit

Yes we also love duns maxomorra villervall molo piccalilly, etc mostly second hand. Frugi used to be my go to and would always buy on drop days but now it's Duns.

my eight year old is happy for me to choose his clothes, the two year old is not! Luckily I like a bit of clashing of prints as she has some unusual choices 😂

TheNonsensePotter · 19/09/2022 15:49

I appreciate they're a lot more ethical than most brands, but yes the price is a problem for me, especially if they don't last particularly well.
And I also agree it's nice to have a choice that isn't pink or blue.
But I thought (admittedly from my very limited research) these were things that a lot of larger companies are quite pro-active about?
I don't struggle to find gender-neutral stuff in Tu, H&M, or M&S for that matter.
I'm just sick of having to filter out Frugi which is definitely an acquired taste and even my four year old wouldn't wear let alone my eldest.
I just wondered (hoped) if they were possibly selling through bigger brands as they might be going out of popularity and maybe making way for other brands which look less like Mr Tumble's pyjamas

I think sometimes it's easy to glance at clothes in big shops, see the blue/brown for boys and pink for girls, and sack it off. But if people are big on second hand Frugi as well, aren't charity shops a better option?
There's no way a pair of trousers for a two year old should cost more than a tenner, surely.

I think is the opposite. They’re going up in popularity as people want more ethical choices so they’re selling in more places.

The problem is we’ve got used to clothes being so cheap due to worker exploitation and a rise in artificial fabrics that are essentially plastic and no good for the planet. Frugi isn’t too expensive, other shops are too cheap

Everybody I know who dresses their kids mostly in Frugi or scandi brands goes to great lengths to tag and hashtag in all the brands on all their snaps. This interests me, psychologically.

OhhhhhhhhBiscuits · 19/09/2022 16:30

Frugi used to be amazing quality even without all the ethical considerations. Then they sold out to an investment company and the quality is getting worse and worse and prices going up and up. I haven't bought frugi for at least 18 months now as it was looking shit after a few washes, the sizing is also all over the place now as well where it always used to be big.

I mainly stick to Maxomorra now and VillerValla which is amazing quality. I then get basics from h&m conscious range and they look fab together.

SockQueen · 19/09/2022 16:33

I (well DS2) only own one Frugi outfit. The t-shirt has washed well; the trousers have faded significantly with only a few washes, so I'm not totally convinced by the "better quality" claim.

AllThatAndMore · 19/09/2022 16:34

Oh I love the brand 🙈!! I buy it in the sale usually! It’s such nice quality with bright colours ! I have two young boys 20 months apart so it’s been well worth the money .

Cowhen · 19/09/2022 16:37

Thanks @BuffaloCauliflower!
