DS2 about to turn 5.

Right, he loves and already has:
magnet tiles
mud kitchen
anything sensory like playdoh, kinetic sand etc
Play kitchen
lego OBSESSED
cooking (has equipment/books etc)
play sofa
any craft kit

he does Stagecoach so singing/dancing/acting

Loves making dens so I was thinking of some den set but that’s what the play sofa is for really.

He wants Harry Potter Lego which is fine but 1) he has no idea what Harry Potter is and 2) that’s my only idea so what can I suggest to grandparents? Literally out of ideas!

Also any good books for new readers, we have a set of Usborne and biff & chip early readers but I honestly don’t know if I can go through that again after DS1!

Thanks!

How about an experience so pass to a local farm or zoo.
RSPB used todo kids membership with entry to their reserves and a magazine 3 or 4 times a year.
magazine subscription
Project X is a scheme of reading books, similar to chip, biff & kipper.

Thanks all!

@Barleysugar86 we have those bath stickers 😄 they’re great. Scooter could be an option, ours is knackered. He’s still on a balance bike but mainly because he’s not really bothered. Big bro needs a new bike, so maybe bikes for both for Xmas?

@Y7drama ah yes I forgot about playmobil! Good shout. He got the farm for Xmas and loves it. So much tiny stuff and we have a 6 month old 😅😅

@IggyAce oh yes memberships etc! Great call for grandparent pressies etc thank you. Really want him to have lots to open too though! #shallow!

My 5 year old loves superhero action figures and toy cars. My daughter loved puzzles and activity books at that age.

Singleandproud · 18/09/2022 13:42

Get him the first Harry Potter, the illustrated version is beautiful, it is large and a great book to share, it really isn't too dark. If you get him one a year he'll be older as the books get scarier.

If he likes drama have a look on etsy and also have a look at your local theatre for what younger children's productions are on, they tend to be shorter in length but DD could sit through a whole musical at that age.

I know alot of people don't have them now but a CD player for audio books but I'd pair that with a cast recording of Matilda and perhaps London tickets for February half term if you can afford the trip.

If not keep an eye on kids week in August when children go free for theatre production in London for most of August.

Marble Run
Bath bombs
Playmobil
Cars and car mat
Paints and an easel

Moofart · 18/09/2022 14:03

How about a trampoline if you have the space outside. Best thing I ever bought for my son and his two little brothers also love it :)

MassiveSalad22 · 18/09/2022 14:07

@YouBoggleMyMind and @Moofart definitely on the right track as we already have all that and he really DGAF about vehicles but we have millions because of his brother 😄 May get another bath bomb kit as they are great.

@Singleandproud thanks I always forget about Kids Week! He did want to go and see local Jack & The Beanstalk actually so might count that as a bday pressie.

@MassiveSalad22 if you want something for him to open get a load of beans and wrap them up and see if he can work it out.

My mum has always wanted to see the Nutcracker so I bought tickets for this winter for her birthday writing a note in the card (no physical tickets) and gave her a nutcracker, she opened it and "said I've already got one" took her ages to notice the note on the other side of the card.
