Decidual Cast ... *Warning* do not google when eating your tea.

Has anyone had one of these?

Started period 3 days ago, passed HUGE lump of flesh this evening - just like chicken skin - dark at one end.

Dr. Google said it was a decidual cast and is usually very painful. Mine wasn't but it looks just like the photos online. The whole lining shedding at once.
I won't post a photo because it really isn't pleasant to see!

Should I go to the out of hours? I feel absolutely fine.

If you feel absolutely fine I wouldn't go to ooh, unless your worried about anything. I passed one but I was in hospital at the time the staff weren't worried about it

EntertainingandFactual · 17/09/2022 21:20

Thank you @missbipolar! That’s reassuring. Yes, feel fine.
They’re quite shocking to look at. I’m used to normal clots but this is something else!!

Has the bleeding stopped though? I've always wanted to ask. I'd be quite content with an all in one go thing me. It's a tedious process.

@gamerchick It’s just like a normal period now! Bright red.
Not particularly heavy. Would be nice if it was over and done with.
Have you googled it? The pictures show exactly what I had. Spectacular and gross at the same time.
Thank God for the internet otherwise I would be beside myself with worry.

Cheers man. I have, it's quite interesting stuff.

The pictures online look terrifying!
Can we have some idea of scale please?

EntertainingandFactual · 17/09/2022 22:11

@PolkaDotShoes

Heavily edited/blacked out photo attached
Thick and rubbery like a chunk of chicken skin. The photo shows it’s spread out size compared to my thumb which is in red

I've had it twice. Once was painless, the second I had brief but excruciating pain about 12 hours beforehand - I honestly could've passed out.

If you feel fine then I'd just carry on as normal. It's a bit shocking when it lands in your pants though! Gross but a bit fascinating.

35965a · 17/09/2022 22:20

I find this fascinating! I’ve had some whopping (sorry for TMI) ‘fleshy’ clots but none quite a full decidual cast. Hopefully if the bleeding is normal you won’t need a doctor or anything, just keep an eye on it.

EntertainingandFactual · 17/09/2022 22:20

@LemonMuffins I feel lucky re. pain.
None at all.
Sounds awful for you. Did you discuss it with the GP?

@35965a
I’m used to black fleshy, stringy clots but this was more like a chunk of very thick skin. I’m hoping it’s the last of it.
Good to know it’s ‘a thing’ though - nothing sinister.

As I scrolled down, that advert for the chicken in jam came up, and I thought there was a photo for a split second. I quickly realised, but not before an "Ouch!" was uttered. Then I saw the actual photo.

Ouch!

Indoctro · 17/09/2022 22:27

According to this article it does warrant a GP/ A&E trip for check up

Any chance you could have fallen pregnant? This can be a warning sign for ectopic pregnancy. If you've done the deed in the last few months (even if you are using contraception), I'd go and get it checked out just in case.

EntertainingandFactual · 17/09/2022 22:34

@Indoctro That’s the first article I read when it happened.
I’ve completed an online consult form for my GP (attached photos) and will hear back after the BH - on Tuesday. I think I have the only GP left in the U.K. that deals with requests the day they are received!

Amybelle88 · 17/09/2022 22:35

I've had it before - felt like I was having low level contractions until I passed it, then I was absolutely fine.

It's just one of those things that can happen, don't worry xx

Def not pregnant!

Phew, not an ectopic then. That's fast for a GP!
