DS 11 feeling pressured to listen to drill music

DS has just moved to senior school. He said lots of kids discuss drill music. I don’t like it due to the bad and violent language. One kid has been teasing him about it and he feels excluded. He is now begging me to let him. I have said no and explained why. He’s just left a small primary school, where this just wasn’t discussed. Any words of advice on how to handle it?

Let him listen to the music. It’s just music.

Discuss why you don’t like it so your son can make his own decisions. Parents banned Elvis back in the day and this is just as mental.

I have no idea what it is, but do feel glad that my dc are tinies...

Don't be THAT parent. Let him make up his own mind

So you take issue with all music with 'bad' and violent language or just specifically drill? That's an interesting one, I'll say that.

Drill is hideous, and I say that as a 30yo who listens to a fair bit of obscenity filled rap.

Actually I'm "that" parent and making decisions to protect my DCs.

There is plenty of time in their late teens to explore whatever. Never has there been a generation of kids who have such sexual grooming.

Never feel guilty about protecting your DCs
