I don’t know if I’m mad for considering travelling to London on Sunday night to be there for the funeral on Monday, is anyone doing it? I’m sure it’ll be absolute chaos!

Absolutely not
do check bbc etc it’s likely they’ll impose a closing time for the queue

Anamechangeisasgoodasarest · 17/09/2022 15:49

The queue isn't for the funeral.

NorthAngel · 17/09/2022 15:50

No chance. There will be millions going and you'll get to see more from your sofa.

Zone2NorthLondon · 17/09/2022 15:51

shows how much interest i take
i presumed there would be queues along the route, on the viewing points

asblindasabat · 17/09/2022 17:26

im probably underestimating how busy it will be. I’m really gutted I can’t go and see her lying in state to pay my respects

It was busy on Wednesday but ok if you went early and were prepared to wait it out. It was more chaotic afterwards as people tried to leave but exits and roads remained closed.

Allmarbleslost · 17/09/2022 17:31

No. I'll get a much better view from my sofa courtesy of the bbc.

I live in London and went to St James’s Park to sit in my favourite spot. The atmosphere is calm but it is chaos trying to get anywhere. There is very strict management of where people are walking and lots of barriers. I felt claustrophobic and legged it.

I’m wondering if I arrived late on Sunday night would I be able to get into Westminster hall by closing time at 6.30 on Monday Morning

Suspect they will close the queue at some point after lunchtime tomorrow to ensure all are through before 6:30 am.

Hbh17 · 17/09/2022 17:43

The expectation is that entry to the queue will be closed either late on Saturday night or very early on Sunday morning, to allow everyone time to get through before 6.30am on Monday.

I think I heard on the news this morning that the queue for the lying in state is likely to close on Sunday evening. Could be wrong, but I think I did hear it.

Anyway, I won't be going. I'll be paying my respects by watching it on TV, which will give me a much better view anyway.

NorthAngel · 17/09/2022 17:57

I'm going to Windsor and Central London in two weeks when it's over. I'll go to Westminster Abbey too. I can reflect on it all then.

RoseAndRose · 17/09/2022 18:03

I think the queue will close at around 6pm to allow a clear 12 hours to get through (plus half an hour buffer). Lots of people reporting 11+ hours in the queue

MinervaTerrathorn · 17/09/2022 18:04

No. Not my nan.

ClocksGoingBackwards · 17/09/2022 18:11

There will be big screens showing the funeral in Hyde park and along the procession route. I think it’s worth going if you want to.

OnceAgainWithFeeling · 17/09/2022 18:15

They are forecasting that London will be FULL for the first time ever on Monday.

As in stopping any more people coming in on trains or roads full.

I would think 3pm, for a buffer?

laughing at London being full. It reminds me of a Tube driver, years ago. We got to Charing Cross on a summer Friday afternoon. I was going to work. He annnounced “I regret to inform you, central London has been closed due to lack of interest”. Then he cracked up laughing and apologised. Poor tourists. 😂

All of this has reminded me how I do actually love London somewhere deep down.

my sister hates all the royal stuff but she walked past the queue last night and even she is saying it was a lovely atmosphere.

generalh · 17/09/2022 18:32

Hell no.

LIZS · 17/09/2022 18:38

Actually it was nice this week to have to take the time and look at London as a tourist might - the flags, the pomp and ceremony, the green spaces and historic buildings. So often our visits are rushed and focussed on getting to a particular destination, using the tube, that we miss out.

rose69 · 17/09/2022 18:52

People we setting up camp on the Mall on Wednesday so even if you went in on Sunday night you won't be close enough to see anything. They are setting up big screens in The parks.
