I was driving on the M25. Those of u that use that know that they have cameras and they do go off when the speed limit is changed.

Driving the other day and they had changed to 50. Could see in my mirror and then In front of my some idiot who decides that speed limits don’t apply to them. Was weaving all over the place in and out of traffic and causing lots of people to brake. So dangerous

He then got to a empty part of the road and speed off. At a huge speed. Got a ways down the road and the camera got him. He obviously doesn’t drive on there that often as everyone who does knows there are cameras.

I call them drifters as they drift in and out of the cars at huge speed to get passed everyone. So dangerous. Karma.

It's like some drivers think they're on the dodgems. It's so bloody dangerous.

I thought I'd read somewhere that some of the M25 speed cameras have a legal loophole so speeding can't be prosecuted.

When it's 50 mph (seemingly most of the time on the m25), I'm going at 48 and people are whizzing past me, I don't understand - surely they can't be getting speeding fines or they wouldn't be doing it? I'm not talking the odd driver but at least a third of motorists.

Tomikka · 17/09/2022 14:13

There could be various ‘loopholes’ that get reported upon, but generally they are the specifics of individual cases ….. and once you’ve been caught genuinely speeding with the option of a course or the ‘half price within x days’ is it really worth the expense of going to court and probably having to end up paying the full price plus additional legal costs ?

When you’re going at 48 in a 50, are you going by the speedometer? On a legal basis manufacturers can be prosecuted for under reporting, and most on the road over report - so your 48 could be 45.
Compare sleeps between your speedometer and a GPS …. But still don’t rely on the GPS

But of course some drivers take the ‘speeding prosecution tolerance’ of 10% + 3 …. So would drive at 58, and then wonder why they get a fine because the tolerance isn’t applied in that area or the cameras are newer and more accurate.

I also don't understand why 1/3 of drivers haven't been caught speeding.

Some nutty drivers are in cloned cars. They are literally untrackable

I was packing my shopping into my car in a multi-storey car park. Could hear a car revving up loudly and a 'boy racer' came flashing past and agressively tooted his horn at a very elderly couple pushing their trolley towards their car, making them hurry out of the way. Boy racer swung extravagantly into a parking space and straight into a supporting pillar, crunching the front of his car. Oh how I chuckled.

Grand Theft Auto drivers I call them.

Oh, that is beautiful.

I honestly wish more people got actually pulled over for dangerous driving. It bothers me way more that speeding (within reason). It's the weaving around and the false confidence that gets on my wick.

Driving along a one way street keeping an eye out for a place to park, but with a car right on my bumper.

Saw a spot, indicated, slowed down, car behind remained glued to my bumper. Stopped at the right spot to do parallel parking, indicating, put my car into reverse, car behind never budged.

So after a standoff of a couple of minutes I got going again. The car behind me pulled up into position for a parallel park in the spot he had prevented me from getting into.

A car pulled out from the other side of the street and I quickly pulled in to park. In my rear view mirror I saw the spot filcher start to back into the spot. I got out of my car and saw the spot was about a foot too short for his car, so I stood and watched the maneuvers. I couldn't help myself. After several brave tries he peeled away at speed. I waved as he roared past.

I wondered that but my satnav and Waze show similar speeds. The 50 limit speeders are easily going 60-70 plus. They can't all be getting speeding tickets so I'm intrigued as to why they persistently don't comply with variable speed limits.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 17/09/2022 21:26

I do wonder sometimes about how fast I can go. But he was in a really fast car and was speeding fairly quickly. I also see lots of people go to fast through the camera on the m25 and wonder if they know something I don’t.
doesn’t matter really the signs are there for a reason. What makes them so bloody special that they think they don’t have to follow them

A lot of forces released data on this a while back (though a few refused to say). Generally the tolerance is 10% of the limit plus 2mph, so 35, 44, 57 etc. Not sure I’d like to test that theory at 79 on the Motorway though personally.
