Well that was Weird-Social Services

I received a phone call today from SS. They asked for me by name, and then confirmed that I was dd's mother, again mentioning dd by name.

3 years ago we lived in House A, covered by Council A. We then moved to House B, covered by council B. Dd started nursery and then school in Council B.

The lady said that they had received an anonymous phone call with concerns for a child at House A, and the details they had on file for that address were mine and dd's. The call was from Council A social services. Dd has never been registered at a school or nursery in Council A, but we were registered at a doctors surgery.

We have never had any social services involvement, so I don't know how they got our names and my mobile number. She asked for my new address and said she would update the record. When I asked if a concern had been called in about dd by name she said "no, just a child currently residing at House A".

I'm really weirded out by it all. Is this normal?

Seems to me the person who raised the concern about child A obviously didn't know the name of the child they were concerned about (theysu know school through uniform or something)

Social services tried to match up a name from the address given and got yours and dd's name. Dates of birth were plausible so they got a phone number via your name.

Sounds like it wasn't really SS - someone trying to find your new address? Maybe give them a call back and confirm it was actually them.

The call was definitely from Council A, I googled the number afterwards (and it also came up on my phone as Council A through some magic phone wizardry). @deplorabelle , I really do hope you are right!

Your post doesn’t make sense you said ss called with concerns about your dd and said her name then at the end you asked if the concerns was about your dd and you said they said it’s not and it’s the child at house A but if that was the case why did they mention your child’s name? Surely they told you what would happen next?

Soontobe60 · 16/09/2022 20:23

I can see how that might happen. SS receive a call about a child currently living in your old house, they find your details from the Council (they will have access) and the info will have all the family details - maybe cross referenced through Child Benefit? So they phone you and you confirm you no longer live there. They most likely did a home visit following your call.

They would have searched under the address on the child health record database and got your DD’s details. The referral must not have been ended with Council A and transferred to Council B.

Sounds like the child at your previous address had not been registered with a GP (they own the records) so that’s why they picked up your DD’s record not theirs.

@SpinningFloppa The lady on the phone confirmed my name, and then asked if I was dd's mother.

They then said they had received a call about a child currently residing at the house we used to live in. I explained that we moved 3 years ago, and asked if the report mentioned dd by name because I couldn't understand how they knew who we were. The lady repeated that it was a concern about "a child" currently living in House A, said she would update the file with our new address, and then said goodbye and hung up. There was no mention of any next steps or anything.

This is making me feel so much better, thank you all. I've been so worried that I've given myself jaw ache from subconsciously clenching my teeth all afternoon. I've been so worried.

Honestly I think it's just a mix up OP

Last year a policeman came to interview my daughter - had the correct first name and address - clearly got it off whatever database they all use and said she was involved in some sort of crime/was a witness......he was a bit surprised when I invited him in and said sure you can interview her....she was 8 weeks old 🤦🏻‍♀️
