Zombie threads REALLY freak me out anyone else?

I read one the other week, was actually quite invested and was going to reply. I can't remember exactly what it was about but some sort of friendship drama... then after the last three replies (present date) I realised... the OP had posted 20 YEARS ago! For some reason it really freaked me out. I imagined some woman somewhere fretting about what to do before I realised it was basically a ghost from the past and that person is a completely different woman now and possibly doesn't even remember posting, maybe doesn't even have the same name. Could be abroad, could be anywhere, could be... anything. How it gets ressurected is anyone's guess but I find it kind of creepy yet fascinating! Yes I know. I need to get a life!

2002 I was living the single life in London! So was probably about some random I had slept with/work dilemma/flatmate issues.
Am glad my life has moved on!

Hahaha, me too! With a crap boyfriend on the scene. In fact I wish I'd known about MN, someone might have encouraged me to LTB a bit sooner.

I can see how resurrecting zombie threads can happen. I'm in the habit of putting "mumsnet" before random search queries (eg holiday destinations) and I guess others do similar, then think they'll add a question.

Sometimes what alerts me to the fact that a thread is ancient is when I see usernames that I remember from back in the day.

Who is EMIN?

She has a thread in classics and did a wonderful thing for a baby. It’s heart warming and heartbreaking all at the same time. Will look
for a link

It doesn't really bother me if it's a zombie thread, because good advice doesn't stop being good advice with the passage of time and it might just help a new reader.

In 2002 I was in the middle of a depressive episode, had an extremely unsuitable partner and I was drinking far too much. I'm much happier now :)

I absolutely feel the same. And I wonder things like "wow... Their child would be 15 now! I wonder how they got on?" 😂
I totally understand the ghost from the past feeling. It's very strange.

Well....I'd probably be wondering how to get the angry carpet delivery guy out of my house and wondering if they delivered the right carpet (I think that thread was from around then????) or maybe wondering what baby transportation system would be best for my baby....I'll post on that thread in a few years time recommending one to myself!

(Both of these threads actually happened and neither was posted by me).

This is lovely. I’m very happy for you

I was 19. Would have been some friendship drama or other. Maybe an unrequited crush.

It's bloody irritating when zombie threads get resurrected, although I do appreciate that it is sometimes the result of someone googling something specific...BUT... the fact that people continue to post after numerous comments saying this was 10 years ago just goes to show how many people just jump in and post having not even bothered to read one single comment on the thread.

It is often entertaining, but there was one a couple of years ago when the poster had sadly passed away. Somebody very kindly updated in a new thread to let everyone know that the poster had passed away, and so many people then went on to the original thread (which was asking about holiday advice for someone who had a life limiting illness) and continued to make suggestions along with "have an amazing time".

💙 That is one of the loveliest, yet most heartbreaking posts I have ever read on here.

That's nice of you, thanks @YesitsBess
