Has anyone successfully 'retrained' their bladder?

I think that I may have an overactive bladder. Thankfully I don't leak at the moment but I do have the constant urge to wee and it's ruining my enjoyment of everything. Every time I go out all I can think about it whether I'll be able to access a toilet. I can hold on for a while but I start getting the urge again within 30 minutes of going for a wee and it's very uncomfortable.

The GP was very disinterested but I read about bladder training so thought I'd try to do it myself.

Has it worked for anyone? I'd love to get to the point where a can go a few hours without feeling desperate for the toilet.

Did you improve?

Old thread but I’m interested too!

Stop drinking tea.

There is medication. Solefenacin maybe? I took it for maybe 6-8 months then tapered off. Bladder training had never worked for me. It's still not as good as a 'normal' bladder, but after the tablets it's much improved from what it was. I could continue taking them but am happy enough at the mo.

Drink lots of water eg 2 or 3 litres for a day or two, while staying at home. Then go out and your bladder will be strengthened so you feel less of an urge to go.

I drink lots of water at work. When I am on hols and out of the habit of drinking water, I feel a greater urge to go, especially on coach trips.

Try to get in the habit of drinking lots if water when you are home of an evening/have nothing planned. It really helps.

The only way for me is to minimise my cuppas, as I prefer tea, but it does mean I need the toilet regular.

I've had an overactive bladder for about 20 years. Nothing ever really seemed to work but I gave up on the tablets the doc gave me cos of side effects and never went back. I've tried bladder retraining unsuccessfully in the past but gave up too easily. I'm trying it again now.
