Alarm clock for a student who cannot wake up

DD is off to uni next week and I don't know how she is going to make lectures as she relies on me to wake up. Her phone alarm doesn't rouse her even when going off for an hour. Has anyone got any recommendations for an alarm clock that would rouse the dead? She is not going to get value for money from her tuition fees otherwise.

Alexa alarms can be LOUD and if you buy a smart bulb they can be set to start turning on before the alarm so that you allegedly get a gentle wake before.

Then you can set her to tell you the weather / turn the radio on etc just generally be a real nuisance Grin

My smart watch vibrating is the only thing that rouses me. I wear ear plugs so noisy alarms are just no good for me unless they're so loud they'll wake the whole house.

Old fashioned alarm clock, inside a metal biscuit tin to make it louder. Put it on the other side of the room from the bed, then get out of bed to turn it off and don't get back in!

An old fashioned alarm clock inside a biscuit tin - if you get one with a loud enough ring it'll wake the dead....

The bed shaker alarm from Amazon does the job and is the only thing she's found that works reliably. It is loud though, the vibrations go through the house. But she assures me she makes her lectures so that's the main thing!

My son found the bed shaker works for him too. He has a watch alarm which vibrates as backup in case of power/battery failure. I think he was able to adjust the volume on the alarm so that his flatmates didn't get woken up too.

It's really comforting to see that I am not the only parent who has had to help with this problem! I've never known anyone else apart from my son who is so difficult to wake, and I was starting to feel that it was something I had done wrong.

The sonic boom alarm clock. Nothing else wakes me up. But it will also wake everyone else up within the same building.

Well bang goes my advice. My dad used to throw water on me but I imagine that would be awkward if she's living in student halls.

She needs to learn the consequences. It's not your issue, she has to make mistakes. She's capable of getting up if she really has to. Her housemates can help out if needed but she has to do it herself.

If she had a first class flight to her favourite holiday destination, I doubt she'd oversleep or rely on a fancy clock!

@JaJeanes Mumsnet is a UK based forum with predominantly UK posters but of course there are many other people from other countries including ex pat Brits too. We call them universities and say they are off to uni but in the US you tend to call them colleges even though the institutions are universities in name. Loads of stuff on google saying why.

As above, anything that vibrates might help and I think it is good to test these things out early.

I have an old fashioned metal alarm clock. The noise is horrendous.
it’s actually trained me to wake up to my phone alarm which I set 5 min before so I can turn it off before it goes off as it puts the fear of god into me.

I happily slept through everything else including the super sonic boom alarm clock.
