New covid booster , side effects?

Chloefairydust · 16/09/2022 00:34

Just had the new covid booster that’s out today along with the standard flu vaccine (flu vaccines I have had before, never had bad reaction to). Just wondering if anyone here has had it and had any side effects?

I’m suddenly feeling achey all over, sore throat ( obviously sore arms on injection sites, although was expecting that) . I have a headache and some brain fog too. I haven’t had this reaction to previous covid jabs. Negative covid test. And felt fine before vaccine.

Dont get me wrong, I would rather a few temporary side effects from the booster, rather than catching covid itself however just wondering if anyone else has had side effects from this new booster, and how long they last for?

Are they giving the Covid jab and flu jab together for the over 50s as standard?

Chloefairydust · 16/09/2022 00:50

No, I have the vaccinations as I work in a nursing home. The pharmacist asked if I wanted them both today, and I just thought might as well get them both over with. So I think you can book separate appointments for them.

Which booster is it? I had terrible reactions to the first AZ one, barely anything withe the second AZ and nothing with the Pfizer.

You could have just overloaded your system having both. Some people can't do it, others can.

Yes these are normal reactions.

We are giving Moderna and flu jabs. Got 200 booked for one day this week.

tiredwardsister · 16/09/2022 05:48

I had both on Wednesday (Moderna) and only have a slightly painful arm which resolves with paracetamol., I had both last year same story. A couple of colleagues said they felt mildly unwell and another couple felt as I did. I was told when I was given them that you could develop mild flu like symptoms and to take paracetamol and drink plenty.

PieonaBarm · 16/09/2022 06:12

A friend whose a GP said the flu jab has had some significant changes this year. It's probably that rather than the Covid booster

chocolateorangeinhaler · 16/09/2022 06:33

Normal immune response. It shows your body is fighting what it thinks is the virus. So that's kinda good even though it's making you achey.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 16/09/2022 06:38

I reacted like that to AZ and Moderna. The last Moderna was horrible. Violent shaking and pains.

vik1233 · 16/09/2022 06:44

I had the Moderna booster and was so unwell! Second day I couldn't even get out of bed, felt worse then when I had covid, I was unwell for about a week! . Hope you feel better soon

ErinAoife · 16/09/2022 06:52

Gor me, just a bit of a sore arm the following day.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 16/09/2022 07:06

When I took an elderly friend for her first booster earlier in the year, the guy who administered it told her to take paracetamol as a precaution. She said 'oh I'll be fine, I was ok after the others', and he said that it didn't necessary follow, even with the same vaccine type. Some people reacted badly to the first dose but not to the second and vice versa.

Chloefairydust · 16/09/2022 11:54

Yeah it’s the new booster which covers the new covid virus strains that I have had. Definitely felt worse than when I had the last boosters so I’m not sure if that’s because it’s a slightly different vaccine to last time or whether it’s because I had both the booster and flu jab at the same time. Felt really poorly last night, aches and pains, I think I had a slight fever and was shivering pretty much the whole night. Also my neck and armpit area feels really tender so I’m thinking that’s my lymph nodes maybe making the antibodies. Paracetamol didn’t even touch the sides. It’s a good thing I’m not working today, so hopefully tomorrow when I have work the symptoms will wear off. My arm with the covid injection site also feels really bruised but my other arm that I had the flu in is completely fine now.

Not sure I would get both together again though. Although I’m grateful for the vaccine, If it offers some protection I don’t mind a few days of discomfort. When I had covid back in the first outbreak I was left with long covid symptoms and it took about 2 years to feel normal again.

Also I think it’s important I have the vaccines as I’m working with vulnerable people, I would feel terrible if I exposed them to covid.

I really miss the times before covid existed though. I’m not sure things will ever get completely back to normal again. In regards to vaccines and wearing face masks…

I had the Moderna bivalent jab and the flu jab on Tuesday morning. Both shoulders a bit sore, the Covid arm more so and so not quite pain free. I spiked a fever around bedtime and felt mildly off, but in general not bad at all competed to previous Covid vaccines.

saraclara · 16/09/2022 12:04

STILL not quite pain free, rather

Quveas · 16/09/2022 12:09

I had both on Tuesday. No reactions to any previous ones. Slightly off but not enough to describe as "ill" for a couple of days. My arm still hurts at the injection site, but I think that has little to do with the vaccine and more to do with the fact that the person giving it must have been a Zulu spearsman in a previous life. He was brutal, and I am usually not a wimp when it comes to injections, but it HURT!!!!

RuthW · 16/09/2022 12:14

Everyone I know who has had them together feels ill.

I'm having mine separate - also in heathcare

PeloFondo · 16/09/2022 12:29

I'm having mine on Sunday.. hoping it's ok! 5th vaccine for me

Popplebop · 16/09/2022 14:12

Had mine yesterday (covid booster only) and for the first time I felt dreadful! Injected at 3pm yesterday, by 9pm in bed shivering and with headache, lots of blankets. Awful night and still rough today. I was so blasé about it as well as had not had any previous side effects from the previous Covid vaccinations apart from sore arm.

saraclara · 16/09/2022 15:03

I honestly don't think it's predictable. I had a nightmare time with the first AZ, nothing with the second (Moderna) but a bit rough with the third (also Moderna) and just arm pain and a bit of a temp with this last one.

It's probably more about your body's state at the time and how it feels like responding.

IcaMorgan · 16/09/2022 15:30

I had the Moderna on Wednesday, by 9pm I was shivering like mad, headache, aching all over and exhausted. I had Pfizer for my first 3 and had no side effects but had Covid at Christmas and wondered if it made my immune system kick in more when I had the jab

Twospaniels · 01/10/2022 20:19

I had the Moderna yesterday morning and by early evening I had a headache, brain fig and achey limbs. I had a terrible night. Today i have still been achey but not as bad as in the night. I keep thinking I’m a bit better, and then I hae another bought of being quite achey. I’ve been having 1 paracetamol every 4 hours and it is helping.
I don’t have my flu jab until the end of October.
