If you called to make an appointment with your GP after being asked to make one following e consult, how long would you have to wait?

Got a text last Friday telling me that GP needed to see dd and admin would call to arrange within three working days. Of course nobody did so I called to make an appointment today. Date given is October 13th so five weeks since GP said she needs to be seen.
None of us have seen a GP since before pandemic but back then you would walk in and be seen the same day. Is a five week wait just typical nowadays or is that longer than you would expect or experience?

4-6 weeks is pretty normal ime. There are simply not enough doctors and too many patients 🤷🏻‍♀️

If it was urgent then by the next day…non urgent then 1 week but I’m in Ireland.

Presumably you needed an appointment outside of school hours and it was non-urgent. Then I would say this was fairly typical.

Same day or that week if you want to book ahead, but my GPs is a tiny one, so not as many people/backlog. Think it really varies from place to place. The waiting list to get referred to hospital for ultrasounds and other type things is ridiculous though.

Depends on what's wrong really.
I can get my son seen the same day as doing an econsult.

3 weeks was the last time I was told I needed an appointment. 3 weeks of worry to be told there was nothing wrong. (had blood test done)

Usually a GP would advise admin as to whether it was a routine or urgent appointment and it would be arranged thus.It sounds as if DD's appointment has been made as a routine. If you are worried you could do another request or hang on on the phone.

Depends. Last time I did an econsult the GP phoned within 4hrs. Then a nurse phoned a week or so after to check if things had improved or whether additional meds were needed.

Generally 3-4 weeks with my GP. Not sure how long for a non urgent not particularly bothered which GP appointment. Fairly certain I’ve had a same day face to face asthma appointment in the last 2 years.

whatdodos · 15/09/2022 17:53

It was 6 week wait for me but I needed a time out of work hours, otherwise it was only a 2 week wait

ManagementPlan · 15/09/2022 17:59

I booked one the day we broke up for summer and it was on 31 August.

However, when DS needed one for a MH issue, once I eventually got them to believe it was urgent, I was asked if he could be there in 20 mins.

AsterixInEngland · 15/09/2022 18:03

3 or 4 weeks isn’t unusual.

BUT it’s a child and the Gp specifically asked to see her.
i would highlight that and ask if waiting that long is suitable.

Same or next day.
