Modermas the maker and rolled out start of Sept in USA and just after that here
Last week all 65 and over were invited from Monday

Did anyone read of any negatives?

Reports also state that when you go for your vaccine if the Bivalent vaccine is not available you will get the old one

Whichever one I will take it

Any news re effects etc afterwards hardly anything on the main web and I don't read Twitter etc for this stuff, thanks

I had the new one last week. Very sore arm which was the same as the old Moderna I'd had the last time and an itchy, hot red patch a couple of inches across which was new for me and came out a couple of days after jag.

Both symptoms resolved by day 4.

I also felt a bit rubbish the next day, but I had my flu jag at the same time so it might have been that.

Mine was booked for tomorrow but I tested positive this morning so I've moved it!

So bloody cross! Had it the first time in November last year & ended up with steroids & antibiotics - really hoping that doesn't happen again!

I thought the flu jabs were not out atm.
Thanks for sharing

Also had flu and covid jab (bivalent moderna). Sore arm, slight headache but all ok by 24-48 hours.

listed side effects same as the other vaccines.

Quveas · 15/09/2022 22:58

I had it Tuesday. Bit of a sore arm. Slight aches and fever the next day for about 12 hours. More worried about the fact that they handed out the leaflet that said "read this before you have the vaccine" after I had it!

Raul57 · 16/09/2022 09:33

Thanks all.
We live in se London. Those that had the flu jab where about you live?

Any news re possible serious side effects re knew vaccines?

For the record we had all three previous jabs and will go for this one as well old or the new one but want the newer one

They're flu + covid boostering healthcare workers in Scotland at the moment, but I spoke to a London friend yesterday who'd just had her flu jag (over 50s cohort).

KangarooKenny · 18/09/2022 17:59

I’ve had my flu jab, and I’ve given some too !

Bickles · 18/09/2022 18:03

Had Covid bivalent last week (HCP) as did my Dad (77). I had no side effects bar a slightly sore arm.
my Dad had chills overnight.
DH (carer) and my mum (73) both had Covid and flu one in each arm yesterday and both been fine.
My Dad and I both have flu booked for the next week.
AZ seems to have caused the worst side effects in my family but maybe that’s because it was a novel virus? DH and I have both had it twice now as well as 4 jabs. My Dad has had it once and 5 jabs.

Raul57 · 19/09/2022 12:15

Thanks all, very helpful
Still nothing in the new re big side-effects and hopefully these vaccines are safer than the few that gave unexpected problems

Are people being offered the new vaccine?

OP posts:
Bickles · 19/09/2022 16:05

All 4 of us had the Spikevax (Moderna) bivalent vaccine.

Blix · 19/09/2022 16:21

As I understand it they have 13 million doses of the new one and there are 26 million eligable for the booster.
I'd be interested to know what percentage of those 26 million will come forward for it.
I am immunosuppressed and have had 5 doses so far, plus covid (very badly). Very keen to have the new one, I think if they offer me the old one I will decline and re- book .
DH had covid last week so I'm holding off just in case already infected. DS2 had the booster on Saturday. He was eligable because of living with me. He was very fluey the following day and had a headache. TBH I was surprised he had it, I wouldn't have asked him to because he's 24, fit and has had covid very mildly.

Raul57 · 19/09/2022 16:25

Thanks all
Good luck @Blix

Pfizer also has a bivalent vaccine, at least in the US. I had mine two weeks ago and had no adverse reaction other than being a bit fatigued for a day.

chesirecat99 · 19/09/2022 16:42

DM had the same with the bivalent vaccine after not even a sore arm with previous vaccines, @ditalini. I haven't heard of anyone else having an itchy arm at the vaccine site with any of the previous vaccines.

ditalini · 19/09/2022 17:45

If you google "covid arm" it appears to be a thing, sometimes quite extensive and potentially a delayed reaction after a week (mine wasn't very delayed nor was it extensive).

Possibly I was sensitised after my previous Moderna booster as the two prior to that were Pfizer?

Anyway, doesn't look like it's a problem any more than feeling a bit grotty is.

Raul57 · 20/09/2022 20:05

My wife had her Modean jab about 11am - had a light headache, lay down on the sofa for a couple of hours to watch tv then made luch then dinner etc now appears ok but we will see as after effects can be delayed
