pressure cookers - worth it?

Considering getting a pressure cooker for quick after school dinners. If you have one - do you think they are worth it? How often do you end up using it? Dont want it to end up as yet another appliance on top of my kitchen surface

My mother had a pressure cooker when we were young. It had to have weights put on it and hissed and spat and we were all afraid of it.
Consequently, when I recently bought a multi cooker, I didn't think I'd be using the pressure cooker bit at all.
BUT what an eye opener a modern pressure cooker has been. Easy, quick, energy saving. Love it

I've had an instant pot for about 5/6 years and I honestly wouldn't be without it. I use it at least once a week, sometimes twice a day depending on what I'm making and most of it can go in the dishwasher so it's an easy clean.
Great for cooking whole chickens (as long as you're not wanting crispy skin), stews, stocks, risotto, pasta dishes, boiling eggs, cooking pulses and a whole load of other things. I probably don't use it to it's full potential.
I'd make sure the one you get, if you decide to get one, has a saute mode so it's a one pot dinner. Also useful for thickening sauces

We have one that is also a slow cooker and does casseroles as well
brilliant for fish, like 3 mins. Cook gammon, much less hassle than boiling.
very good bit of kit

Yes - I have a ninja foodi with a pressure cooker and it is amazing. Stew and dumplings in about 30 minutes!

And fabulous for meat

BamBamBilla · 15/09/2022 13:34

I don't use it all the time I'd guess once a month or so. Good for speeding up casseroles, curries and pulled pork. Its been really handy this week making jellies and chutneys from the fruit gluts in the garden. I've got one of the old style stove top ones not the new electric ones.

Brilliant!

Cook pulses from dry, so you can make a chilli from scratch in one go, no need to pre soak or cook the beans.

Great for pulled pork.

Great for casserole type things, though it takes practice to get the veg the right size.

Another 'yes' although I have a Ninja foodie and think the pressure cooker is great. You just need to be brave 🙂

I've got a stove top pressure cooker and although I don't use it as much as I should (I don't as much cook now as assemble) I won't get rid as it saves so much time and energy when in use.

I would be terrified to leave an appliance on all day unattended. For years I happily put washing, especially bedding, into a washer/drier in the morning to come back to it after work, until I learned this was dangerous-unless I've been believing an old wives' tale.
