Can an abdication be reversed?

Ok so pure curiosity, not making any suggestion that any of this could happen but what would happen if EG Charles decided to abdicate in favour of William to give him a nice long reign, but then William died. Could Charles take back his duties (unabdicate as it were) or would it pass on to the next in line of succession?

But if Charles did abdicate (hypothetically) would the throne actually pass to William? When Edward abdicated he gave up the throne for himself and for any children he might have so I assume a Charles abdication may also remove his sons and grandchildren from the line of succession. If so that'd make Andrew next in line...

When the last Tzar abdicated, it was originally just for him, but then he realised that would make his son Tzar and they would be separated, so then he abdicated in favour of his brother who basically said 'no way'.
