Anyone here suffer from long term IBS? How do you cope with it?

Although I’ve had it on and off for 24 years, I have been really struggling with almost daily symptoms the last few years. I am IBS mixed but more on the IBS-d side of things. I seem to have a super sensitive digestive system which gets thrown out of whack at the drop of a hat.
I have put myself through a barrage of uncomfortable tests (colonoscopy, gastroscope, pill camera endoscopies, scans etc). They keep saying it’s ‘just’ IBS.
I am low fodmap, keep a food dairy, drink only water or mint tea, exercise, listen to gut directed hypnotherapy. I live a really plain, boring life in order to try and keep my symptoms down but they still haunt my regularly.
I have tried all the recommendations for this condition such as probiotics, all the IBS meds available, antidepressants, kefir etc. I have had lots of complementary therapies such as reflexology etc. I have had CBT, hypnotherapy and counselling to try and help, nothing sticks even though I’ve thrown so much time and money into it.
I was lucky enough to be referred to a neuro-gastroenterologist and excitedly waited for nearly a year thinking they would be able to suggest something only for her to tell me that I’ve just got to learn to live with the condition. Her only suggestion for me was Imodium on the bad days!
Do you also suffer with regular symptoms? How do you get through your day to day life? How do you live as regular life as possible with your guts constantly battling with you?

Try eating white bread instead of wholemeal and generally cut down on fibre

I cut out everything. And even then it is not great. It’s just part of my life now. I have other medical problems that affect what I eat. So I basically just eat dust now.

Friend now takes Psyllium husk tablets....for a few weeks and now all ok...if it flares up again, he takes for a few weeks and then is fine for months...seems to have found the answer after trying all the other remedies etc etc.

I kept a food diary for ages and it didn't throw up any suspects. It's completely random for me. The one thing proven to make it bad for me is not enough sleep. So I go to bed quite early most nights.

Honestly, I've given up and am mostly "trapped" at home. Walking soon after eating sets me off so lunch/dinners out just aren't appealing. I wfh and for me to leave the house it has to be for an "event". Those days I take immodium. Same if I go on holiday. I can walk a short distance outside the home (near enough to get back if needed) and I have a garden so not locked indoors all the time, but this is my life now. It sucks but I battled to live "normally" for the past 20 years and I'm tired now. Really exhausted by it all. The constant stress ruins things and is so draining.

I can have accidents at home when I'm perfectly happy and relaxed so it's nothing to do with stress, anxiety etc. Those things do make it worse but the absence of them doesn't cure it. I'm sorry I can't be more positive. It's a horrible thing to live with.

I cannot eat Quorn. I understand that many IBS sufferers can't tolerate it either.
If you're eating plant based foods , check the ingredients.
