I’m looking to buy a new duvet. I swear shit loads to the point my duvet cover and night clothes are drenched. Pretty sure it’s peri. Is there such thing as a duvet protector that I can wash, but won’t add to my body heat or be noisy?

What about one of the washable duvets ? They don’t have a cover, you wash the lot.

Buy a wool duvet it will reduce the amount you sweat . Cosy in winter cool in summer and lightweight . A game changer

A cotton top sheet

Yes there is. We use them, pillow protectors and mattress protectors in our Airbnb rental. We use a hospitality company called Out of Eden and prices start at about £7.50. They also appear to be available at Dunelm, Amazon, Soak & Sleep.

I had this problem. There are care home suppliers who do waterproof duvet protectors but they're not particularly nice and will just make the sweating worse. I have mostly given up on duvets and sleep under a cooling blanket, which I got from Amazon. I layer up for colder nights and in winter just have something warmer over my legs and feet.

A cotton top sheet

This, always use a cotton or linen top sheet also good in winter as it’s an extra layer.

I have a thick brushed cotton duvet cover that I sleep under minus the duvet in Summer. I have a fleece blanket that goes over the top if needed on nights it's a bit cooler.

I find it's the perfect 'weight' to keep me warm and cool.

Duvets aren't mandatory....

I agree with the top sheet. Then if you get too hot you can kick off the duvet but still be covered.

All our mattresses and pillows have protector covers, if need be, they can be washed.

Thank you everyone! Very helpful feedback. I should have mentioned that my washing machine isn’t big enough to fit my king sized duvet.

Cotton sheet as a layer is a great and the simplest solution. I’ll look at that and also the protectors mentioned.

Do they make a noise and does the duvet still feel cosy?

I've not used a duvet in months now. I use a duvet cover and have a fleece blanket folded back over my feet - ready to pull up if I wake up cold in the early hours

cherrypiepie · 13/09/2022 19:56

Do you have feather duvet? I got one and went from feeling like I was sleeping in a sweaty plastic bag to feeling like I was I a cloud!

SirenSays · 13/09/2022 20:06

I'd use a topsheet but not a cotton sheet if you sweat a lot. Once cotton is wet it can take a long time to dry.

CombatBarbie · 13/09/2022 20:43

I suffer horrendous sweats from trauma nightmares. I have found bamboo mattress protectors and pillows a saviour but now off to Google the Eden range for the actual duvet!

Decidualcast · 13/09/2022 22:10

I have a cheapo microfiber duvet, which I should change (but, that’s another thread). I see a lot of people praising wool ones, but too expensive. The problem is that I need weight on me at night, and so I like heavy duvets. I used to have two duvets, but I’m too hot at night.

I have a top sheet of the highest count 100% cotton I could find - it’s crispy cotton and it’s cool wherever you move your body to. I also have pillow cases the same. They are icy cool and I must turn them over multiple times a night for extra lovely cooling feeling! I just fold the duvet back to knee level and pull up if needed.
I also sleep in shorts and vest top. I stick bottoms and a cardigan over the top for evening sitting downstairs but take those off and just sleep in the vest and shorts, again 100% cotton.

Came on to suggest a wool duvet. DH was very sweaty until we switched. I find im very hot during my period and it really helps - they're easy to wash too
