Is this normal? To be sore days after a concert

I went to a concert in June. I can't remember the exact times. I think the doors opened for 7.30 pm. Support act at 8. Main act at 9. I went to the venue for 7.15. I was standing all night. I was right in front of the stage. The gig finished for approx 11. I was right in front of the stage singing, jumping and dancing. I tolerated that night well.

I'm not in the UK where I presume many events are cancelled due to the Queen passing (may she rest in peace).

I was at a concert at the weekend. I had to get up early to travel. Then I did a lot of walking to get to the stadium. I was on time because I wanted to get into the pit. I was in front of the stage from about 5.15. I spent the whole night singing and dancing and jumping up and down. The gig finished for 10. Then I did more walking to get back into the city. By the time I got home it was very late. It was 4am. I was on the go since 8am. I struggled to get into bed because my body was sore.

The next day when I woke, I was so so so sore. My whole body - legs, back chest, shoulders.

I am addressing this pain through paracetamol and fluids but I am still not right.

Is it normal to feel so sore after a gig. I checked my phone and it said I did 38,000 steps that day. I don't usually get that much. My daily average is about 13000 but sometimes more.

Would my body be sore because of that? Or should I be considering something else at this stage. Like maybe covid. The concert would not have been the exposure because it wouldn't come on that quick. I don't know where else I would have got an exposure last week.

I guess it's like any exercise depends how fit and active you normally are. If you are generally really active working on your feet all day like a nurse and visiting the gym then it's probably unusual. If your a couch potato who's idea of a walk is front door to the drive then yes you'll be sore and tired after a full day exercising (dancing / walking / waiting around)

Verbena87 · 13/09/2022 14:50

38000 steps is walking a long way (not sure exactly but more than a half marathon) and if your use of ‘pit’ could comfortably accommodate ‘mosh’ before it, many of those won’t have been sedate walking steps anyway 🤣.

you’ve got DOMS. You’re fine. Shit loads of calories, boiling hot Epsom salt bath and loads of water usually sort it for me.

GetOffTheRoof · 13/09/2022 14:57

38,000 steps is about 17 miles with my stride length. If much of that was jumping, that's a LOT of jumps.

I'd imagine most people who aren't training for marathons would ache for the next few days.

Sounds as though you have DOMS. You'll be fine. 🙂

I did a half marathon (13 miles) at the weekend and did about 30000 steps, I’m still sore today! That’s a long way you walked and jumped. What was the band most importantly?!

Hugasauras · 13/09/2022 15:09

Yep sounds like DOMS!

SpiderinaWingMirror · 13/09/2022 15:24

Not sure but the first big gig I went to post lockdown in June I got covid. I don't think you would mistake it for just being a bit tired and sore.

Theblacksheepandme · 13/09/2022 15:49

Are you too embarrassed to say you were at Garth Brooks OP? Maybe line dancing is more strenuous than you thought.

Chewbecca · 13/09/2022 15:55

Was the concert two months ago or a few days ago?

Anyway, I would ache for days after doing half that, yes, it's because I have lots of arthritic joints. I wouldn't actually attempt to do it in the first place tbh. It wouldn't last for months though, only days.

Jaffacats · 13/09/2022 16:08

Wonder Woman would be aching after 20hrs of activity and approx 17miles! If your daily average is 13k steps then you’ll be feeling v sore for a few days.

AsterixInEngland · 13/09/2022 16:10

What is DOMS?

I described the concert I attended in June to show that I tolerated a stand up gig well.

Now this time around I am dying days later.

That is so funny. You caught on quick and it was well worth. I'm not familiar with Dublin. Google directions failed me and let me around in circles around some streets of Dublin.

Oh, I see, sorry, I misunderstood. That does sound like an incredibly strenuous day.

Hoppinggreen · 13/09/2022 19:49

DD went to a grungy rock style concert over the Summer. Her BF got Covid and it was too late to get anyone else to go so 50 year old DH went with her.
They both had a great time (showed her how to mosh apparently) but he was on his feet for around 6 hours and took over a week to fully recover

BamBamBilla · 13/09/2022 20:00

Took me about a month to get over 5 days of caining it at Glastonbury.

APJ1 · 13/09/2022 20:54

I always feel wrecked for a few days after attending a gig.

Serious fomo op btw

I went to a rock festival during the summer, walked thousands and thousands of steps and was definitely stiff and achy afterwards.

Three days after I got back I got a sore throat and runny nose... and tested positive for Covid. I felt like crap for about 4 days and then recovered.

They felt very different. If you're physically sore and achy I'd say it was more to do with the exercise than anything else!
