Are management allowed to keep all the tips?

DD, aged 16 has just started work in a restaurant. All tips are to be put into a tip jar, which is absolutely fair enough, however she has discovered that the tips are split between management, who all presumably are on a higher wage and who also don't do any of the serving/cooking/cleaning.

Is this allowed? DD said some shifts she gets £50 or more in tips, and never sees a penny of it!

Doesn’t sound fair but if that’s there policy 🤷‍♀️

Looks like this is not illegal yet, but will be?

No it's not fair DCs have worked in hospitality as kids. You're lucky if you see any credit card tips. The tip jar boss decided was for a Xmas bash three years since they've had one covid. We're talking thousands here a place with 400 covers overlooking a marina. Now he works for a great boss. Watched the bar manager lift two twenties from the jar one night. The tips went up when the restaurant manager left too.

It's disgusting but catching them nigh on impossible

HMRC it's a tax fiddle??

It may be 'allowed', according to their policy, but it's certainly not fair.

When I worked as waitstaff when I was younger, the vast majority of places did pool tips to be shared between the kitchen and floor staff, but there was almost always an unspoken agreement that that didn't apply to the senior staff, e.g. head chef / maitre d' / restaurant manager etc, who would be on much higher wages.

I would recommend your daughter looks for a job in a place that treats their staff more equitably.

The law is still going through parliament but it will soon be illegal.

My DD works in a restaurant, she gets credit/debit card tips added to her wages, and an envelope with cash tips, which have been shared between kitchen/bar and waiting staff. I think it's absolutely appalling if she is missing out due to some light fingered manager.

I'd be interested in which chain restaurants etc do and don't pass tips on. I'm not throwing money away if the waiting staff don't get it....

That doesn't sound fair
DD worked in a restaurant and tips shared according to hours worked by each staff member
