Can I listen to headphones /podcast while having root canal?

I’ve got some of those bone conduction ones which sit just infront of my ears. So I’d still be able to hear any instructions. Thought it might help take my mind off it or will the dentist think I’m odd.?

Absolutely you can 💯! When we do root canal we tell our patients to bring head phones, a pillow etc to be comfy (usually 2 hour appt)

Thank you. Blimey did not realise it would be two hours! Thank you.

Yes, in fact I would encourage it.

It might not be for you! Don't panic, we usually do tricky cases or re root canal treatment so takes longer. Either way, you'll be fine and enjoy your podcast 👍

I always do this when I have a dental procedure. Can't hear anything during drilling, but it's great the rest of the time. I use regular in-ear headphones and generally keep my eyes shut. I raise my hand if I want the dentist to stop and they tap my hand or shoulder if they want my attention.

My go-to is Victoria Wood. She really takes my mind off what's going on in my mouth Grin

I might start laughing if I listen to Victoria Wood which wouldn’t be good! 😁

my dentist actively encourages it!

I did this and it was a good distraction. Dentist didn’t mind at all

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 12/09/2022 19:12

Yes you can. I always make sure that hat the dentist and I have agreed a ‘stop immediately’ signal before any dental work (extreme dental phobia and sexual abuse).
Usually it’s I will raise my right hand, open palm, horizontal facing downwards - my hands are normally occupied with a squishy stress ball during treatment, so it’s noticeable!
I’ve only ever had to use it once when the suction didn’t get a large bit of crap!

Yes! I found this out on here when I had my first root canal of my life a few months ago and was so pleased!
