I'm so impressed with the pageantry, the police, the whole shebang

I know we do it well. But at such short notice there's faultless pomp, ceremony, all those servicemen, all in the right place

Yes I know it's all rehearsed. But so impressive

Agree. Nobody does it like the British. That's why so many people come here because its its just done so well.
Just imagine how boring and colourless everything would be if we became a Republic

VioletTopaz · 11/09/2022 22:18

It’s bloody phenomenal. In all it’s slightly bonkers historical glory. The trumpeters are like something out of a fairytale.
Obviously it’s been planned for, for decades. But planning and actually executing something like this are completely different.
I think it’s wonderful to see how many people are showing their appreciation for The Queen too.

😂😂😂
Do you mean people come to the UK to watch Scottish undertakers do their stuff or for their own funerals?!?

InWalksBarberalla · 11/09/2022 22:21

We will probably have to wait till Xi Jinping dies to see the like again.

meateatingveggie · 11/09/2022 22:23

I just can't imagine how they managed to get it all mobilised at such short notice. All the planning in the world doesn't always mean it comes off. Yesterdays proclamation was faultless despite it being the first time for everyone.
The soldiers. The music. All so so impressive

It has been planned and practiced for, for years.

porkmarkets · 11/09/2022 22:33

Do we actually do it better than everyone though? Lots of countries have royal families but I can't say I've ever seen any of their ceremonial events to comment on what they're like.

TokyoSushi · 11/09/2022 22:33

It's fabulous, if a bit bonkers at times! There must be some very stressed people behind the scenes but this is their moment!

I'm really proud of our country just now, especially after it's been pretty bleak recently.

Planned yes, but not really practiced as such. They couldn’t mobilise hundreds of soldiers, footmen and police officers to do a rehearsal.

Yes they will be rehearsals going on now in small groups, but they don’t actually all work together until it all happens.

The queens funeral plans would have been made years ago ( they have to be ) but those involved wouldn’t have known until she passed away.

WeAreTheHeroes · 11/09/2022 22:36

It's all on time too 😁

meateatingveggie · 11/09/2022 22:37

@Sporty2022 exactly. They may have had all the plans and may have practised a little. But in 2 days they've actually got in the right place and pulled it off. I find that amazing.

We do it well. British values. Cool Britannia.

Redab · 11/09/2022 22:41

Those bugles😍.
I love a bugle, sends shivers down the spine.

Ihaveanoldiphone · 11/09/2022 22:45

Yes I absolutely love it, i feel like I’ve travelled back in time, I still think I take for granted the amount of work that goes in as we just see the finished spectacle. It would be great if they could do a bbc ‘airport’ style documentary to show the time and work that goes into it.

Fluffruff · 11/09/2022 22:55

I was just commenting on this to DH during the 10pm news and we wondered if there is someone in charge of the whole show - from the announcement of her death to the memorial thing they already had at St. Paul’s, the proclomations, the cortège route. Who is keeping everything on track? Fascinating.

whirlyswirly · 11/09/2022 23:00

We especially enjoyed the Welsh parade being led by a goat Grin

GyozaGuiting · 11/09/2022 23:00

I agree very impressive and professional. I was in the armed forces and they are so well drilled in this stuff. Definitely some of the best in the world! (Police too! But I know less about that)

Singleandproud · 11/09/2022 23:06

I do love all the pomp and ceremony having a monarchy brings. I don't care about the expense I think it's important for our national identity, what would we be without it?

I was a little disappointed the proclamations were on printed office paper, in my head I thought they'd be handwritten calligraphy on some scroll of parchment. Although that would be decidedly harder to read and no where near as practical and I think the people who read them did a fab job and particularly enjoyed the Welsh women (I'm sure has some sort of incredibly important title) who spoke hers in Welsh.

Bumpsadaisie · 11/09/2022 23:07

Makes you realise what an interesting and bonkers nation we are.

In fact we are four nations.

And we have a monarchy on top of our elected mps.

Is just very different to any other European country. They don't have a monarch on their psyche like we do.

Singleandproud · 11/09/2022 23:08

I think the Police exerted. Massive amount of will power not to turn around as the cortage went past, not even a peek. I often think that when they are policing high level events but this has got yo be one of the highest.

Goat for the GOAT

One of the Jubilee tributes was a photo of all the Army mascots together

Sporty2022 · 11/09/2022 23:11

I love seeing the guardsmen, footmen, bands, horses etc etc. The whole pomp and ceremony. The Monarchy.

Its history and traditions.

We live in an ever changing world but I think it’s good to keep our traditions alive.

FlamingoSocks · 11/09/2022 23:11

Apparently yes, the Duke of Norfolk. It’s a hereditary role that comes with the title and he organises all the funerals, the coronations and the opening of parliament.
I’ve read he really has to do it too, not just sign off.

FlamingoSocks · 11/09/2022 23:13

Sorry that was to @Fluffruff

The Duke of Norfolk. Whoever inherits that title is also made the Earl Marshall and has to arrange the monarch's funeral and the next monarch's coronation if the death happens during their time. (I assume the Duke actually has staff doing a lot of the work for him, but he is the one in charge, from the little I've read about this in the last few days.)
