Roz was definitely the best female character in Frasier!

I've been rewatching the series and Roz is the best! She's loyal, a good friend, gets frasier out of a good few sticky situations throughout. She's a great mum, especially raising Alice alone along with having her career.

She always got the short straw though and had her lively love life mocked. But I think she was fab!

I came here to say Bebe, she was fantastic. The actress who played her, Harriet Samson Harris, was in an episode of Hacks and it took me ages to place her without that haircut.

Maireas · 11/09/2022 20:37

Lilith was great as well.
I loved Star Mitzvah - where Frasier does the prayer in Klingon!

mathanxiety · 11/09/2022 20:40

I think Lilith was fantastic. She was also in the precursor series to Frasier (Cheers), as his wife.

I absolutely loved Lilith - the episode where they are trying to get Freddie into the Marbury Academy is bloody brilliant.

mscynical · 11/09/2022 20:41

Roz and Bebe are the best. Also loved Sherry who dated Martin for a while.

The only thing that let's Frasier down was the terrible English relatives/brothers of Daphne. The accents were embarrassing.

Most perfect sitcom of all time!

I've been watching Cheers on C4 and the difference is really startling. I guess Cheers was a great sitcom for its era but Cheers looks and feels extremely dated now, while Frasier (apart from a few minor things like lack of cell phones) still feels contemporary. I was really surprised how extremely misogynistic Cheers is and how often sexual assault or exploitation is played for laughs.

There were too many jokes about Roz's love life but the show basically respected the female characters and I really liked that one of the lead characters was an educated and successful career woman (who later managed to juggle career, single motherhood, and finding love) who unashamedly liked casual sex and dated a lot. Other characters made jokes but she wasn't shamed for liking sex, some of the jokes were more a reflection on those male characters being insecure or having their own issues with sex.

Yes, I liked Sherry. She was such a great character, so brash and gregarious.

DeadDonkey · 11/09/2022 20:44

I wasn’t a fan of Sherry - too brash for me. Agree about all of Daphne’s relatives and her ex-mechanic boyfriend - they brought nothing to the show.

Maireas · 11/09/2022 20:46

Best of all was Maris.....

Rosewaterblossom · 11/09/2022 20:46

Oh yes, Simon. Awful actor who they made act "drunk" in every scene. I liked her mum though, very funny!

Me and my son loved Frasier.

He was so young but just got it.

We bought the box set and would watch it together.

All the main characters were great as they all had their flaws.

CuteCillian · 11/09/2022 20:51

I loved the underlying pathos of Bulldog, my favourite character. I loathed Daphne, and her Mother, for so many reasons and agree Roz was a great character.
Love Frasier.

GuyMontag · 11/09/2022 20:53

@StolenWillowTree I agree with you absolutely.

I love this programme. I made it my mission to record and watch every episode during lockdown - caught it by chance one morning and it just hit the right spot. The kids joined in and I ended up buying the box set so we could have them all. We still watch it a lot now - just randomly pick an episode by doing number generator.

We recently watched the one where Niles and Daphne are chopping vegetables and singing 'Heart And Soul' which is a genuinely enchanting scene.

That's what I love about it - it's hilariously funny but it's also very rich. It has, erm, heart and soul!

You could tell the cast got on well too which is just so wholesome.

Dreikanter · 11/09/2022 20:54

Brian Cox and Millicent Martin were good as Daphne’s parents (Anthony LaPaglia as Simon … not so much).

Maireas · 11/09/2022 20:55

High Holidays where Martin unwittingly eats the hash brownies.
Fridge pants!

bootseason · 11/09/2022 21:05

'Take a leap' the leap year one is one of my all time favourite episodes - and the one where Martin is trying to solve one of his old murder cases, so funny

IMustMakeAmends · 11/09/2022 21:14

We LOVE Frasier in our house. We watch with the subtitles on in order to get all of the dialogue, it's so witty and cutting.

I love Roz - that she is constantly mocked for her lovelife by 2 men with shockingly unhealthy love lives of their own is such a sharp take.

I love Bulldog too - I am prone to Bulldog-esque moments when I've lost my keys etc and 'THIS IS TOTAL BS! Oh, there they are. Ok bye!' is a fairly common refrain in this house 😃

DeadDonkey · 11/09/2022 20:44

I wasn’t a fan of Sherry - too brash for me. Agree about all of Daphne’s relatives and her ex-mechanic boyfriend - they brought nothing to the show.

But the ex-mechanic boyfriend one was the episode where they all pretend to be other people, and Martin pretends to be a retired astronaut, which is one of the best episodes of all time!

In fact I am going to go and watch it right now. (I have them all series recorded on BT box.)

GuyMontag · 11/09/2022 21:25

Yes, The Two Mrs Cranes!

One of my absolute favourites. The first half sets up the farce then they play it out in the second, stretching every last bit of absurdity. Love it! "Now she hyphenates. It's Moon-Crane."

Ah, I'm giggling just thinking about it.

CloudPop · 11/09/2022 21:37

Loved Frazier. Great show.

Rosewaterblossom · 11/09/2022 21:38

Gill was great too and noel!

I loved the episode with Roz when she pretends to be a caller for Frasier, because he wasn't getting anyone to phone in.

Roz starts off by saying she's afraid of the dark, just for something to say. She had just recently split with her partner and begins to say how lonely she is.
It goes from make believe to real life and her and Frasier have a lovely exchange.

I well up every time I watch it. 😢

Teenyliving · 11/09/2022 21:43

Oh I loooove Frazier - where’s it being replayed at the moment??

and yes Roz is great - really inspirational strong woman

PuppyMonkey · 11/09/2022 21:55

almost every character in Frasier was perfection.

Lana - put your brother on. PUT YOUR BROTHER ON.

Bebe talking about why she loves cigarettes.

Niles. Roz. Bulldog. All fantastic.

Marty was just so cutting, I loved they made him so witty and cool when he could have just been the silly old doddery dad.

Eddie.

Roz: Mulpiple Murtherer fantastic.

StolenWillowTree · 11/09/2022 22:20

Alright so I don't have the Two Mrs Cranes recorded so I'm watching the one where Frasier and Niles visit a spa and become obsessed with getting past an ever-increasing series of VIP doors.
