Is the Paddington thing only from the jubilee?

Just wondering as it seems to be a huge thing so feels like I’m missing some back story?? Seems a disproportionately big feature in all the coverage if it’s just from this year’s jubilee? Not complaining just wondering! (I don’t know much about Paddington!)

I wondered this too!

If there was a sort of backstory or history or something.

No back story, it was just a lovely thing the Queen did for the Jubilee. For those who saw it, it showed her sense of humour.

Paddington was also part of the Queen's 80th birthday 'party in the palace' celebrations, but I think it's the Platinum Jubilee sketch that people remember.

Michael Bond, the creator of Paddington (and also Sir David Attentborough) were both born the same year as the Queen- 1926.
At the Queen's 90th birthday celebration at St Paul's, Sir David read a piece read by Michael Bond. So there is a connection with the writer, that goes back a while.

Oh that’s really nice @Raahh

Paddington had a bit of a rebrand with the film, so as a British "thing" he gained popularity again.
My daughter cherishes a letter she received from Michael Bond about 20 years ago.

Massive It is nice, isn't it- but it has also brought home to me now that Sir David (who I always consider immortalGrin) is the only one of the 3 left now. Sad

Michael Bond created David Attenborough? Is that why he is so lovely. 😁

GrinSorry! I realised after i wrote that it didn't make sense- but it would have been funny Grin

There was a Paddington meets the Queen book and I think Paddington at the Palace book which both pre-date the jubilee
