Where's the weirdest place your child has slept?

So after checking on my 3 year old today I almost had a heart attack upon finding her bed empty and her nowhere to be seen. After a frantic search that took 30 seconds but felt more like minutes I heard her breathing. I'd already had a quick glance under the bed but I hadn't looked properly, she was curled up, sound asleep in the very back corner behind a suitcase we keep there for storage. It was pretty hard to actually get her out because I didn't want to drag her across the carpet and she wasn't waking up enough to get out herself. So, where are the weirdest places you've found your little ones asleep? It's funny, I don't usually feel the need to check on them this late but as I walked by the door I just had a need to look in.

I work evenings from home, and DD(3) went through a spell of appearing in my office at around 10pm and climbing into the dog bed and falling asleep there until I finished work a couple of hours later and moved her back to bed. I ended up setting it up with a little pillow and cover so she could just come in and get into her little bed and get cosy. The dog was a bit disgruntled mind ...

DD fell asleep in her dinner on her birthday turning 2/3. She'd been too excited to nap but clearly needed one.

And DD2 age 4 made a duvet fort with the floor fan when it was a heatwave and fell asleep against the door so I couldnt turn it off or move her.

I have also found DS tucked up in a corner under the bed. Like you, gave me a bloody heart attack when I walked in and saw the bed empty and couldn't see him anywhere until I heard a gentle little snore. Children are so weird. My brother used to regularly sleep on the staircase.

My DD sleepwalked. We found her in very weird places. My favourite was in the "library" (just some bookcases in a nook), in the pitch black, asleep on some books she was 'reading".

Ds always liked to be near us when he was little after bedtime. Found him in all sorts of places. Asleep on the floor outside the kitchen door, on the stairs straddling a couple of them, on the landing. He'd doze off in the bath (with me in attendance), in his high chair while eating.

Once we went away to with a group stay in a b&b type place, miscalculated the number of beds, cots etc needed. He happily slept the night in an open suitcase.

Dd1, in the swimming pool, whilst I was giving her a cuddle

UrgentScurryfunge · 10/09/2022 22:59

A Build a Bear box. It was big enough for his head and to stick an arm out.
An empty book shelf was another classic.

My children had a very casual relationship with their beds and could turn up anywhere in their room, in any position. I had to be very careful walking in at night not to find them by trampling them 😂

DS1 fell asleep the first time he went swimming while being pushed around on a float. He was only 10 weeks old.

Our ds used to sleep on the huge cats bed, 2 dear cats slept next to said bed, kitten slept in bed beside ds (I'm a terrible mum) ds and kitten are now 18 and still sleep together. Dd used to sleep upright in her highchair after dropping her leftovers on the floor for the dog. Dear dog kept vigil under her chair when she was eating for 14 years.

Fireyflies · 10/09/2022 23:26

DD managed to fall half out of bed once so her head and arms were on the floor and legs still on the bed. And remained asleep. She was virtually doing a headstand!

My daughter, aged about 8 months,
climbed onto my back when I was on all fours, settled herself comfortably and fell asleep. I had to crawl very carefully to the sofa to tip her gently off.

Randomword6 · 10/09/2022 23:39

She also fell asleep in her buggy at a restaurant where kids were given lollies. We caught the bus home and tipped her into bed next to me fast asleep. In the morning her lolly was stuck in her hair!

Vitriolinsanity · 10/09/2022 23:40

DS regularly slept on the back of the sofa in my bedroom, he'd lie on it to watch TV and snooze off.

GoodbyeErinsborough · 10/09/2022 23:44

Ds1 slept in a box for about three nights. He was four and it was the box for ds2's buggy so it was pretty big.
He told me he never wanted to sleep in a bed ever, ever again. He was raging when I threw it out

ItsNotNormalLove · 10/09/2022 23:44

I once almost died of fright when I found my DD asleep on the top step of our very steep stairs aged about 4. She was a frequent sleep walker as a child.
Under the coffee table was another place.
In Pizza Express, almost face-planting her pizza, turned out she had an ear infection.

FancyFucker · 10/09/2022 23:49

When my eldest was about 18 months old we found him fast asleep in a TV unit. It was a big wooden one with doors at the front. He'd got in and managed to close the doors from the inside
He was curled up and had his head wedged in the corner

purpleboy · 10/09/2022 23:49

Standing up with her head on the sofa seat when she was about 1.5, it was too cute!

OnceBitten25 · 10/09/2022 23:54

When DD was around 3 I found her sleeping in an Amazon box with her blanket 😂

Motherofalittledragon · 10/09/2022 23:55

My ds had obstructive sleep apnoea, he would fall asleep absolutely anywhere, and bloody hell didn't he snore!

FarmerRefuted · 11/09/2022 00:25

My DC will sleep pretty much anywhere. Places include:

  • in shopping trolleys sitting in the seat with their upper body draped over the handlebar
  • laid out in the basket/trolley part of the shopping trolley
  • on the toilet
  • in the bath
  • on the back doorstep after going in the garden to play
  • under various tables both at home and in pubs/restaurants/cafes/entertainment venues
  • on the floor of a theatre box half under my seat with an arm wrapped around my feet
  • while having an on-the-shoulders carry
  • on a haybale at a festival
  • on the landing partway between the bathroom and their bedroom, must have gotten up in the night for a wee and got too tired to go all the way back to bed
  • in the dogs crate, they even closed the door behind them
  • numerous times in Reception DC would take themselves off for a nap, nearly gave the teacher kittens the first time by "going missing". Turned out they were under a pile of coats in the cloakroom fast asleep, would also stuff themselves into the doll bed in the house corner and commandeer a bean bag in the library
FantasylandEnthusiast · 11/09/2022 00:27

On the pirates of the Caribbean ride - the ride photo is DD asleep and me and DH frantically grabbing her to stop her flopping around when the ride drops down. Slept the entire thing.

MargaretThursday · 11/09/2022 00:36

Ds spent his first night in a doll's cot.
We arrived home at 4am with nothing ready as he was a bit early and it was the only thing we could think of at that time without going up into the loft to get everything down (and then it would need washing)

I made sure he was out before dd1&2 arrived home because I thought either we'd get tears that he had pinched their doll's cot or they'd want him to always sleep there.

Cantseethewindows · 11/09/2022 00:51

First night we took the sides off DS1's cot we repeatedly had to retrieve him from a kneeling position on the chair in his room.

After a particularly bad day when he'd been extremely angry he fell asleep on the floor in DS2's room

Have also found him on the floor in his room, having slept through falling out of bed and, judging by the warmth of the floor, having been there for a while.

Most recently he refused to wake up after falling asleep in the car on the way back from the airport. We carried him in, put him in bed, shoes off, nappy on and he slept till morning.

Lilbunnyfufu · 11/09/2022 02:10

When DS was 4 we found him fast asleep in the Moses basket we set up for the new baby no idea how he squeezed himself into it. Once we set up the cot we also found him asleep in there too.
Most recently he feel asleep under the baby's cot.
