I have slipped a disc in my back and been in constant pain since Sunday. I've been told my Dr and physio recovery time will be 6 months. It's been not even a week and I'm so bored. I can't work as my job involves a lot of manual handling and I can't concentrate because of the pain. I've been doing a jigsaw, I go out for a 30 min walk every day when the pain is bearable but please give me ideas of what I can do. I've read loads of magazines and watched loads of Netflix already. Currently I can sit in a chair for short periods or lie down for long periods of time.

Adult colouring book.
Yoga and pilates may help you if you follow along some at home ones on youtube, nothing too difficult obviously but beginners ones could be good!

Write a novel
I was in a writing group and it took me hours to write a half page of not great stuff....
start by doing a 'my boyfriend lied about his wife/ lover / affair with my mother/ romance with NDN etc etc etc

Online language course/lessons - either via Zoom or something like Duolingo
Podcasts
Get organised for Christmas - write Christmas cards and start shopping online! Look at recipes and make your meal plan for Christmas and New Year
Learn a new craft e.g. crocheting, knitting, quilling or quilting
Join an online choir
Get some puzzle books e.g. The Ordnance Survey Puzzle Tour of Britain and Bletchley Park Brainteasers
When you can stand, batch cook meals for the freezer

You need to find some structure in your day.

Reading is a fab way to relax and be transported to a different world.

Seconding something like knitting or crochet, at the end of it, you have something to show for it. Even if you just create a lot of squares that you can sew into a blanket.

Check out online courses that are free. Download a quiz app or a language app.

Organise all of your photos into albums.

You could really do some interesting stuff in the next 6 months. And remember that in 5 months you shouldn't be as immobile or as in pain as you are now and you might be filling some of your days with swimming or longer walks or physio sessions.

Hope you're on the mend soon.

I'm doing chemo for the next three months, and although I'm half working and still exercising I'm going to have more free time at home than usual.

I've got a second hand sewing machine and am planning on picking up making things for the house again, and maybe some patchwork and appliqué. I've also been knitting. I've ordered lots of library books. I did wonder about online language courses, but decided that might be too much.

Definitely learn a language. Goethe Institute runs great online courses.
