Two days into the job and she's on stage in St James Palace looking like an appointed Head Girl who happens to have never attended school before.

And to have all her previous Head Girls and Boys right there staring at them all watching.

The only thinking she is thinking is how much the publishing deal for her Memoirs has rocketed.

tobee · 10/09/2022 13:40

What is it that Penny Mordaunt has done today?

Sorry but I've not seen

Learning this has made my day 😄

And mine!

I'd say JRM and Boris are raging to have missed out.
Maybe The Queen was waiting til they were gone.

I can imagine she's a woman who would always have the last laugh!

But I agree there's probably some of the very self serving government who are gutted to have not been the big cheeses in this. Such is their egos.

Penny Mordaunt did a very good job. I was surprised quite how chuffed I was to a watch a woman in that role.

I wish Penny had been PM

Oh god those 2 fandans would have been quoting latin left right and centre

Omg yes!! Haha this thought has genuinely cheered me up and given me a laugh in a time of doom and gloom

Did she walk 500 miles?

Has it ever happened before that we've had a new Prime Minister and new monarch in 3 days?!

One of the papers commented today that has anyone ever had a more extraordinary first week in their new job? an audience with two monarchs within two days.

The last time it even happened in the same year was 1830.

SeigneurLapindeGrantham · 10/09/2022 14:05

Completely shallow I know but I thought Penny Mordaunt looks very like the french actress Catherine Deneuve.

noblegiraffe · 10/09/2022 12:58

Jacob Rees Mogg had Penny Mordaunt's role till early this year. He must be so pissed off to have missed out.

This has also massively made my day

poorbuthappy · 10/09/2022 14:07

I don't want charisma. I want someone with a fucking backbone to do their job.

I think that Liz Truss appointed her in that role deliberately. She would have known the event was imminent.

Literally got to make the King, King

I’m not sure these are separable things. Part of doing the job is having the ability to bring others with you. Being able to speak in public without sounding as if you’ve never spoken English before and don’t understand anything you’re saying is also a plus.

I think that's technically God's job, Penny just got to declare it.

noblegiraffe · 10/09/2022 14:21

This is an amazing take, from the Metro.

Liz Truss must be thinking wtf do I do?
tobee · 10/09/2022 14:23

Lol at the walking 500 miles.

Thanks for the replies re PM.

Westfacing · 10/09/2022 14:24

Bozo must be seething that he never got to be in the limelight these past couple of days - give me Truss any time.

It's almost a 'Portillo moment' to see him just one of the crowd of Privy Councillors standing around, instead of standing on the stage and getting to sign those historic documents!

noblegiraffe · 10/09/2022 14:36

Everyone in the room got to sign the documents, they all had to queue up!

Westfacing · 10/09/2022 14:40

noblegiraffe · 10/09/2022 14:36

But not the same sheet of paper that had the King's, Queen's, PM's, etc signature on!

Kellie45 · 10/09/2022 14:42

I can’t see what an earth anybody is getting their hair off about. The event went well and everybody did their job. Period. For crying out loud lighten up some of you! I dare say Liz Truss is glad of a few days out of the public gaze with the pressure off to get the cards in order anyway.

Mine too!

Poor little public school boys, born to rule, enjoying their rightful place at the centre of constitutional life... oh whoops!

PerkingFaintly · 10/09/2022 14:44

Made mine too.
