The concert I was going to has been cancelled, but still want a weekend away. What shall I do instead? I've been to Chesire Oaks and the cathedral.

Go to Sick to Death - brilliant museum about the history of medicine.

Ship · 10/09/2022 13:01

go down to the river and have an ice cream or go on a boat. Chester park also lovely.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/09/2022 13:19

@Needmorelego omg too cute. I think you've sold the zoo too me. I have a feeling that the funeral is going to be next Saturday though so it may well be closed.

Do you need a whole day for the zoo?

Walk the walls! Lovely and you get to see home great sights. Nice cafes/eateries on the way round too.

Then stop off at The Funky Cow for one of the best milkshakes ever 👌

Brahumbug · 10/09/2022 13:32

Grovesvenor museum is also a great place, full of local history and an amazing display from Roman chester.

Adventing · 10/09/2022 13:34

Walk the walls and down by the river. You used to be able to hide rowing boats but may be out if season now. Have afternoon tea at the Grovener or somewhere else

Sparklingbrook · 10/09/2022 13:35

I think you can get a combined ticket for the topless bus and river cruise. Touristy but fun.

Toddlerteaplease · 10/09/2022 15:09

Are the walls similar to the ones in York?

HTruffle · 10/09/2022 15:22

Afternoon tea at the Abode hotel?

Walk the walls and the rows

walk down St John street (past side of M&S) to the amphitheater, take a left to head into Grosvenor park and see if you can spot the ancient coffin in the walls of the ruins (gruesome but interesting), if you walk right through the park you will get to the river and there are some lovely cafes and pubs along there.

Sparklingbrook · 10/09/2022 15:31

Watch out for the squirrels in Grosvenor Park! they are virtually tame. One sat on my knee.

Essexgirlupnorth · 10/09/2022 15:33

Yes definitely need a whole day for the Zoo it is a big site

Pieceofpurplesky · 10/09/2022 15:42

Yes you need a whole day at the zoo (and probably still won't see everything). Pre book tickets to avoid the queue.

Sick to death is great.
Walk the walls
The Groves are lovely, go on a boat trip up the river
Lots of outdoor cafes, bars, restaurants.
Chester cathedral is well worth a visit
Chester market has some great food and beer/wine stalls, quite often live music and a great atmosphere
Try and book somewhere to eat it can be busy

Chester is basically a great place to mooch about in

thismeansnothing · 10/09/2022 15:54

Chester zoo is massive. You definitely need the whole day to see it all. Unless you just pick out just a handful of animals you want to see.

chocolateisavegetable · 10/09/2022 17:37

Chester zoo is fabulous

petshopboys · 10/09/2022 17:40

The paddle boats on the Dee are good if you have the stamina!

Toddlerteaplease · 10/09/2022 18:49

I was hoping there would be choral evensong at the cathedral. But it's only evening prayer.
