Does anyone own a firm mattress that hasn't dipped and sagged over time?

I got the Simba mattress with my blue light discount and it was so firm, my back stopped being in pain in the mornings - bliss!

But 6 months on, despite regularly turning it as per the instructions, it has dipped where I sleep.
I can rotate it and it's ok for 1-2 nights but then the dip returns and so has my back pain.

I can't afford a new mattress but I need to start saving for one.

Does anyone have a firm mattress that stayed firm?

Watching with interest as I've got the same problem. I bought a new one only a week ago and it's already sagging. I'm considering a mattress topper because I can't afford another mattress!

Our firm ViSprung mattress is still good, even after 10years and that’s with 17stone DH using it. Obviously they are expensive but they are well worth it in the long run.
in the short term try putting one of those cheap flat pillows under the mattress where the dip is.

Yes, we have had a Jonelle (I think John Lewis?) for 12 years, still firm, even and comfy.

I have a deluxe hybrid Octosmart , it's a year old now - still happy with it

OhWelllWhatever · 10/09/2022 11:22

Send it back. I was going to buy one recently and really looked into it as it was such a big purchase. It seems like it's a recurring problem for these types of mattresses - fine for a year or so then they go to shit. Still looking for a new mattress but I've now decided I wont buy anything that comes rolled up in a box.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 10/09/2022 11:25

Thanks for starting the thread, I'm looking for one too and a good base. I want something that feels solid & heavy.. Not sure how else to explain it?!

Apparently they have a dipping policy 🙄

it can dip 3.5 cm 12-18 months after purchase and this is acceptable.

and the cm get bigger as the time goes on.

So in other words, in the small print, the mattress is guaranteed to dip, will continue to dip and they accept this.

I think I'm going to have to take this one to Twitter....

I look this up but couldn't find a mattress with this name.

I did see that the John Lewis mattress are 3k though 😱

We have a firm memory foam mattress that is still going strong after 15:years. Foam is odd because it doesn't bounce at all. Also some people think memory foam is too warm. As and when (and if!) we need to replace it I plan to get a natural latex foam mattress.

TheBirdintheCave · 10/09/2022 11:44

We have a firm mattress from IKEA (pocket springs and a foam top) and it's still firm after five years.

Justanotherwinter · 10/09/2022 11:46

I can’t help you. I bought a silent night one 12 months ago and it has sagged so much I can feel the slats in the bed.

Pinkywoo · 10/09/2022 12:01

Definitely not an Emma, ours is 18 months old and is awful, if I lie right on the edge it rolls me back to the middle!

HeyMicky · 10/09/2022 12:22

Our Hypnos is still going strong after 8 years

Marilla1966 · 10/09/2022 13:00

A Hypnos from John Lewis. Only had it 5 years, but still perfect x

TerfranosaurusVagina · 10/09/2022 13:31

I bought a hypnia mattress 6 years ago which is still like new. The only downside is its so deep its difficult to find mattress protectors and sheets which fit properly.
Its pocket sprung with a latex layer on both top and bottom so can be turned.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 10/09/2022 13:38

Another vote for Hypnos. Had mine 4.5 years and it's still perfect (and I have disabilities and a lot of pain, so it's important to me.

The Hypnos is a pleasing thing to look at, too. You can see the quality. I've been amazed over the last few years at the influx of 'rolled up' ones that come in boxes. it's simply not possible that they could maintain the level of support that proper springs do.

lightisnotwhite · 10/09/2022 13:44

I have an unusual sized bed so no store mattress works. Made is a cotton covered block of hard foam. It’s still perfect and a great sleep. . It’s over 30 years old now.
(so firm but probably fairly grim!)

SlipperyLizard · 10/09/2022 13:45

We’ve had our Tempur memory foam mattress for over 15 years and it is as good today as when we bought it.

No idea what the current equivalent would be, but I think it was at the firmer end of their range with 25cm deep memory foam.

Only problem is that no other bed matches up!

DianaBarry5 · 10/09/2022 13:48

I have a Sealy princess posturepaedic which is 14 years old and still comfy, a few little tears in surface is only such it isn't new

lljkk · 10/09/2022 18:45

yes but it's a nightmare, weighs about 40kg. Takes 2 people to turn it over.

MeanderingGently · 10/09/2022 18:55

I can never find a solid enough mattress and mattress toppers don't seem to give the flat surface I want. Just like you, I have terrible trouble with my back if any mattress dips at all.

I solved it by going to B&Q and buying a board to put under the mattress. It's just solid plywood, about 1cm thick, cost me £6. It's the length of one side of the bed. It's fantastic! So good I went back for another one so the whole double bed was covered. That was about 18 months ago, nothing dips, my back problem is completely solved!

Jonelle is John Lewis - John Elle.

Are you sure you need a firm one though? It was JL that told me that the "firmness" was to do with your weight and they were for heavier people rather than for back problems. Ignore me if you already know that.

anotherpotoftea · 10/09/2022 19:04

We only get on with firm or very firm pocket sprung (tried memory foam once and it was a disaster). Got a Marina mattress from Dreams which is amazing and seems to be lasting well.

The only downside is I can no longer sleep in hotel beds as they are always less comfortable than our bed at home!

Arranstorm · 10/09/2022 19:04

Tempur. My first one lasted 20+ years, another one 15 years and still as perfect as the day it was bought.

Trulyweird1 · 10/09/2022 19:05

Kaymed. Can’t tell you the model but is about 9 years old. Also have a 4 year old M&S one on a frequently used spare bed. Both are great. Kaymed was £££, but M&S was more reasonable
