Is renting a phone a financially good idea?

Just looking at refurbished phones and see on that Magpie site there is an option to rent. So I could get a refurbished iPhone 13 for 25 a month instead of 60 on contract.

Anyone do this?

Do you need an i13? You can buy a good second hand outright for £125. And it's just a phone.

You would still need to add your own sim and pay the monthly top up for that and you’d have no phone to keep at the end of it

Madamecastafiore · 10/09/2022 08:12

You'd be better off buying a second hand one

That's not a good idea. Go to CEC and get giff gaff.

Whycanineverever · 10/09/2022 08:22

I'd get a new older model. You can probably get an 11 for that sim inclusive.

Or buy a new one on interest free form apple
I only paid £41 for a 12 pro when it came out. A new 13 is only £649 on their website so that's only £27 a month over 2 years.
Plus your sim.

I find for newer phones it's better financially to keep separate, older ones you can get good deals on combined contracts.

I have an iPhone 13 and I only pay 30 a month for it on contract.

I've never understood iphones. I bought my phone new for £100 two years ago, and pay £10/month with the odd top up when I run out of minutes or data. Motorola with a decent Android system, pretty fast, doesn't crash and decent pictures out of the camera.

What exactly are the advanced features you'd be getting for an extra £45 per month, and would you actually use them?

I would get a sim only contract - mine is £8 a month on EE

Go to CEX get a grade A phone you like the look of - they are brilliant at advice , choose your price range ( get a decent I phone or Android from £200 upwards )
