What should the baby wear in Winter?

I know what a stupid question but I had ds at the start of June and he’s been living in rompers and shorts. How do you keep a wee baby warm on walks in the winter? Blankets seem inadequate.

A pramsuit / snowsuit and the snug that comes with the pram

I layer up. So long sleeve, short legged baby grows plus a sleepsuit or trousers and jumper with socks. A blanket can work over the top in the buggy aswell to make sure they're warm enough.
I always find layers great because you can remove some if they get too hit. Always check their chest and back to tell their correct temperature rather than hands and feet

I'm also wondering this, as I too had a June baby last time. I just can't imagine trying to stuff a newborn into a pram suit?!

@wibblewobbleball I had a pram suit for my DD, she was born in July last year and when the colder weather came it was such a faff trying to get her in it. She hated it.
So I just ended up layering and then a blanket in her buggy. Worked really well

Thanks guys. I’m going to order a pram suit. My pram doesn’t have a snug though?

Get a generic or universal one - think John Lewis do them

cookiecreammmpie · 09/09/2022 16:34

Snow suit. Pram suit might be too thin depending how cold it's going to be. And you can buy a cosy toes.

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 16:36

Snow suit. GAP do good cheapish ones.

PinkButtercups · 09/09/2022 17:09

This is how I used to put my DS in the pram. He was a July baby. He had a big thick snowsuit, woolly hat and a nice thick blanket.

Oh and he had his cosy toes on top.

I misread this totally - my June baby I was fine layering up by winter, and used a pram suit etc and the JL universal cosy toes. But my second is due in November and I can't imagine a pram suit on a newborn for some reason! Like it feels so awkward to try to get a bunched up newborn into one?!

LemonySippet · 10/09/2022 07:59

I had a November baby, H&M did lined bearsuits (this was 9 years ago!) from newborn which were adorable and super warm, with layers and blankets were fine. I didn't often use a pram though, I had an older child so preferred to carry the baby in a sling and she was nice and warm against me that way.

Trying searching for JL universal footmuff.

Tuppence and crumble star wrap is your friend here!

Paddingtonsmarmlade · 17/09/2022 08:12

I didn't like a pram suit because when you go inside a shop or back home and they're asleep it's difficult to remove without waking so they don't over heat. I preferred blankets so I could add as many as required but also remove as needed. If it was particularly windy I'd use the rain cover to block it even if it was not raining.

Thank you. Got it

Have a look at Morrck blankets too! I swear by them.

Next do lovely fleece sleepsuits which we used for our November baby - we bought 3-6 months and put them over her long sleeved vests / cotton sleepsuits etc.

Me too I hate them as they never suited our needs. Eldest would scream as soon as you went into a shop so had to be stripped off. Live very rurally now and road very narrow in parts so you wouldn’t want to meet a car or tractor as there isn’t many places to pull in the pram. This means driving to a more suitable location for walks. Last thing you want is too wake a sleeping baby to get them in or out of the snowsuit so they can safely go into car seat. I got a present of a fleece lined blanket that buttoned up around the baby and it was as soft and cosy and it didn’t disturb the baby being moved.

caringcarer · 17/09/2022 12:53

Snow suit with feet in.

BergamotMouse · 17/09/2022 13:17

I'd really recommend wool. A disana snow suit. They're great because breathable so don't need to take it off when you end up in heated shops etc.

And keep them really warm without being bulky.

Mamaowl is a great website for woollen clothes.

Caspianberg · 17/09/2022 14:27

I prefer a footmuff. Can layer baby up inside, add blanket, hat, mittens and thick cardigan. Then inside winter footmuff.

means when you go inside shops or get home and they are asleep, but it’s hotter you can leave them sleeping by just removing footmuff and blanket layers off top.
