So is it time to put our summer clothes away?

Well not mine really but my kids? When do you start to put their shorts, sleeveless tops and dresses away. Is it time to take out the long sleeve T-shirts, thicker pants?

Not yet, I’m still in shorts and T-shirt.

GoneWithTheWine1 · 09/09/2022 08:04

I just leave them in the wardrobe till next year, doesn't everyone? Confused

wetotter · 09/09/2022 08:09

It depends where you are and what your weather forecast says.

I dragged the winter dog walking boots out of the hall cupboard this morning - not cold but squelchy underfoot.

Posh preps keep the pupils in summer uniform until autumn half term regardless of thermometer, and there often is a sunny settled spell just after the start of term, because the weather Just Knows how to annoy. Right now though it seems to be playing a good role in providing a pathetic fallacy to support national mourning.

I've kept dds favourite summer dress and some t shirts out but the rest of the Summer stuff went away yesterday.

Marmite27 · 09/09/2022 08:12

Mine like to wear their dresses with leggings and a hoody, so they don’t go away.

As per PP they’re in summer dresses for school until half term, and are only allowed white ankle socks with them, then it’s a move to winter uniform with knee socks after half term, only allowed tights after Christmas until Easter. I never thought foot coverings could be so convoluted before they started school!

Summer clothes put away is a sure fire way to get another heatwave, so if you could OP that’s be great.

UnbalancingAct · 09/09/2022 08:17

I'm slowly putting mine to the back of the cupboard as they come out of the wash. DS would happily wear shorts in the snow, so we have a deal that he can wear them until he goes back after half term. DD is wearing trousers in the mornings and switching to shorts at lunch time. Several girls in DD 's class wear their shorts all year round, when it's cold they put tights underneath. Sleeveless tops can be worn as vests once it gets even colder.

Away?
Don't all your clothes live in the drawers or wardrobe and you just take out what you want on any given day?

Everything does end up in storage, but out-of-season clothes get suckered down in one of those vacuum pack thingies and put under the divan, as they won't be needed for a while. And the stuff that's in season (or year round) stays in easy reach in wardrobe

Not all of us have space for everything all the time

No2incoming · 09/09/2022 08:34

Where we are in the South, the forecast is still 22/23 degrees for a few days next week so I will try to keep mine out a little longer. I'm thinking at the end of September I'll pack them all away and dig out the Autumn/Winter clothes.

nachoavocado · 09/09/2022 08:35

I've started packing it away. Going to sell it on ebay next summer if it doesn't fit. T-Shirts are staying out for a bit but shorts aren't needed anymore. One of the DSC wears shorts all year round though!

Yes I can't keep all my DC's clothes available as their room is tiny

emmathedilemma · 09/09/2022 08:41

I wore shorts all last weekend and haven't been on my summer holidays yet so I'm actually getting stuff out rather than putting it away!

heartbroken22 · 09/09/2022 09:09

Yeah we've got limited space at the moment so 2 girls share a small wardrobe. I put their every day stuff in 2 separate mini suitcases. Sounds weird but it just works for us right now.

Both my girls have been wearing their summer shorts to bed for the past week.

I just have a little anxiety decluttering any summer stuff right now just in case they need it.

OP posts:
DappledThings · 09/09/2022 09:12

None of us have any specific summer stuff except a few pairs of shorts. Everything else is the same clothes with more layers; jumpers over tops and dresses, leggings and tights underneath them.

BringOnSummerHolidays · 09/09/2022 09:17

No, because it's sunny and warm today. I have thought about taking the 9 tog duvets out of the loft. But the weather forecast is for over 20C next week.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 09/09/2022 09:19

When I got out the school things I put away some summer stuff, but not all because it's back up to 25° next week, and DS will be in shorts for at least another month.

Up until last year I would've thought the same as you
Then I moved into an eduardian house and there's no storage anywhere, at all.
In face it's so annoying we are going to move house again j
because of the lack of storage.
