What snacks do you have when WFH?

All I seem to do is reach for biscuits or chocolate etc in the 3pm lull, which isn’t very healthy!

Fruit’s ok but doesn’t fill me up.

What do I need to buy?

Carrots
Cereal bar
Apples

Until very recently I used to snack on cherry tomatoes too but they were giving me painful wind!

same as i have in the office - usually an apple and something a bit sweet (but try to buy the lower calorie type snack bars) with a cuppa and then if i'm going to the gym / training straight from work I have natural yogurt with fruit or a banana.

How is jam on toast not a snack? It's on the higher calorie end of snacks as well surely?!

Trail mix is really calorie dense! Its great if you are on a hike, but totally not going to do much eating at home.

It’s just nuts, seeds and dried fruit. It’s easy to eat too much but if you measure the portion, I can’t see why it wouldn’t be an appropriate afternoon snack.

I eat lunch as late as possible and then it's a proper meal and I try then not to snack!

Boring but the right thing to do.

^ this. I used to be terrible for afternoon snacks

changed my routine in Feb or so

  • breakfast as late as possible (10.30/11 often)
  • lunch later on too (2.30-3 usually, don’t make it TOO late or I get too hungry)
  • dinner at 6.30/7

This has really helped me lose weight & eat better (as have no interest in afternoon snacks, I have a large nutritious lunch instead). It works really well if you can manage your own schedule

If I have to eat lunch at a ‘normal’ time (going to office/with friends etc) I just have a much much smaller breakfast but still later so I get hungry by a normal lunch time (eg a banana and a couple of nuts, or a yogurt and a piece of fruit etc) and I do then need a protein based snack about 3-4 in the afternoon (eg apple& peanut butter, a yogurt, ryvita & cheese etc), but much much prefer my late meals instead

Give it a go & see if it works for you - this change in eating pattern has helped me lose 2 stone (along with overall healthier eating & more exercise) but I’d say that cutting the afternoon snacks has had the biggest impact

Choc chip snack a jacks

HikingBoots · 08/09/2022 17:16

Ummm, I don't snack.
Apart from when I'm going for a run after work and have only eaten a salad for lunch, in which case I need a bit more sustenance and eat 2 oatcakes with peanut butter at about 4pm.

DragonsAndMoons · 08/09/2022 17:24

I try to not have snacky food in so I don't. Often reach for dcs babybells and crisps though 🙄

The office is worse. Both my managers are feeders and there is always cakes, sweets, chocolates. It's a nightmare

Peanut or almond butter on rice cakes
Same on wholewheat toast
Mixed nuts (almonds, cashews, walnuts)
Mushroom pate on melba toast
Vegetables - eg green beans, baby roma tomatoes
Bean salad
Lentil crisps
V8 juice

I try not to anymore as the snack and weight gain was getting ridiculous.
But peanuts (greasy keyboard though), cheese, apples, watermelon, hummus and veg to dip in, were all my go tos.
