What does the 2,500 energy cap mean?!

It means that a typical household using 12,000 kWh of gas and 2,900 kWh of electricity will have the unit rate prices capped at £2500 a year for that usage. So if you use more than this then you will pay more and if you use less then you will pay less proportionately.

The current cap for the same typical household is £1971 a year so you can see it will go up but everyone is due to receive £400 off their energy bills so effectively it's going up just over £100 a year.

Basically there will be a cap on the unit price - not your bill. It depends on your usage. And bills will still go up - just not as much as feared.
