Can you help me plan this day in London?

I’m planning on taking my daughter to London for the day as a fourth birthday gift. I’m hoping to do afternoon tea followed by Frozen the Musical in the week between Christmas and New Year. Can anyone suggest a good place for afternoon tea for young children located near Covent Garden? Also, any suggestions on how to get the best deals or prices on the theatre tickets? I feel like this is ages away, but I know how quickly it all books up during the holidays, so don’t want to risk leaving it too late.

Are you taking her to the matinee? If so, it might be better to eat afterwards.

I had planned to go to the matinee. I thought if we had tea at noon that might give us enough time as long as we stayed in the area. But maybe I’m trying to squeeze in too much.

Stick with the matinee, but don’t do afternoon tea. Instead have lunch at EL&N in Wardour Street

Londontheatredirect.com is decent for prices, of course the prices advertised are for the cheapest.

If it won't make you too stressed, you can buy cheap tickets on a Monday at noon, Google Disney Day Seats or go on the official theatre site for the show. I checked that there were still plenty of seats for the day I wanted to go and felt it was worth the risk to book last minute using this method. I ended up paying £25 for a few rows back in the stalls, a saving of about £80 a ticket. You don't get to choose the seats but they just give you the next best ones.

If you need more certainty and want to buy in advance then look on the theatre monkey or seatview websites for information about which seats are best value. Some of the restricted view ones can be a lot cheaper and the photos on the website show you what the view actually looks like, some aren't too bad at all.

My other money saving tip would be to let your daughter dress up and take any of her frozen cuddly toys with her and possibly put a £5 Claire's tiara on her head before you get there. The merch prices were eye watering and the smart parents had preempted this by making sure they child already had all the things with them so didn't need to buy them!

i use the TodayTix app for theatre tickets and find it excellent.

Thanks for the ticket recommendations! I don’t know if I have the nerve to wait until the last minute, but I’ll check out the options.

Still trying to figure out afternoon tea or lunch options, so happy to hear any recommendations! Thank you!

There's a great ice cream place called Milk Train round the corner - ice creams with candy floss surrounds. My girls love them.
