Gluten free in Spain?

I haven't been to Spain since my coeliac diagnosis so it's not something I noticed before. How easy is it to find gf in Spain (cities) - either bread in the shops, or eating out? And can anyone please tell me the Spanish for gluten free????

Its very easy, my daughter has coeliac and we have booked an all inclusive resort as they're so good at managing it. We're a bit crap compared to Spain and Italy. I believe it's sin gluten but I could be wrong!

McDonalds in Spain has a Gluten free menu. First Big Mac and fries in many years for me.
Restaurants were pretty nice about checking that chips weren't cooked with anything else in their dedicated fryer and explain what was in each dish. But I did have a couple of fluent Spanish speakers with me.
In Grocery stores I found nice GF bread and Magdalenas.

Restaurants tend to be pretty good - they tend to follow the legal requirement to display the 14 allergens, one of which is gluten.

Supermarkets also usually carry gluten free products.

You'll find schar products in shops too

Spain seems really good for gluten free. Lots of supermarket products are marked 'sin gluten' (I'm sure you can work that out :-)) and allergy menus in restaurants are really good.

Brilliant. Thank you all.

If you're in Madrid check out this shop. Just off the Gran Via, near Zara

I live in a touristy place in Spain and it's pretty easy to find gf stuff.
Mercadona had a large range of stuff, but most supermarkets have stuff and alot of restaurants cater for it

GrandSlamFinalee · 06/09/2022 22:29

The boss of Mercadona’s daughter was diagnosed with coeliac and he made a point of making sure his shops provided a range of GF good. My UK GF friends tell me it’s much better whenever they visit. Everything is very clearly labelled.

Restaurants are pretty good as well. Worth checking before going but they usually have a good range.

Gluten free = sin gluten
Coeliac = celíaco / celíaca (ce is pronounced th as in thank you)
