Joint Fixed Rate Mortgages Post Divorce Address Change Question

Hi,

I have a joint mortgage with my ex who remains living at the address. It's a fixed rate mortgage with a hefty early repayment fee. I've moved out and am on good terms with my ex so haven't change my address with my bank (with whom I also have the mortgage) for fear of it triggering them to charge the early repayment fee because of a 'change' in the circumstances... I've also not informed the bank/mortgage company that we are if fact now divorced.

Should I keep schtum until the fixed rate ends, or fess up and pay the fee, or fess up and not have to pay?

Thank you!

The Early repayment charge isn’t affected by a change of address. Simply if you are both paying the mortgage and continue the joint one and you advise them of your change of address this just means you would both get copies of correspondence. The early repayment charge may come into play if you decide on a change of equity or when you decide on paying off the mortgage if one party wants to come of the mortgage.

Have you not done the financial order? Did that not specify what was to happen with the home?
