Why do coffee manufacturers do this!

I used to buy Gold Blend. It was always nice, until they 'improved it' ie made it worse. My search started for a new coffee for my morning cup. I only have one, maybe two coffees a day and I want to enjoy them!
After many tries I discovered L'or. Well, to be honest I'd seen the ad and thought what a load of nonsense, but after trying so many others thought I'd give it a go and loved it!
Two or so years on, they have new packaging, like the Dowe Egberts jars. Less plastic they say is the reason, which is good as one thing I hated about the last jar was the massive plastic lid. But no, it smells and tastes different! This is not the coffee I loved :( and after a Google search seems they have indeed 'improved' it www.conveniencestore.co.uk/products/new-lor-coffee-ranges-launched-by-jacobs-douwe-egberts/668405.article
So my search begins again. Well, after I have bought the coffee in the old jars and they have run out

All instant coffee tastes like burnt gravy to me. Doesn't help I know

Do they still sell Maxwell House? Mellow Birds?

I would imagine the climate is probably effecting the global coffee producers. Warmer weather speeds up ripening process which degrades the bean quality. Floods, drought, unpredictable weather patterns all effect the growing season.

The distributer companies are probably reacting to the fluctuations in produce and labelling up as 'improvements'.
