Which job would you choose...

Hi, I am facing a dilemma and after opinions before I drive myself mad. I am currently sitting on 2 job offers - a very nice position to be in I know - but can't seem to decide either way and running out of time. Without being too outing, both jobs are in government but within different departments

Job A - a new department, larger and possibly better respected, slightly more money (approx. £50/month), option to wfh 3 days a week, essentially admin work, fixed term contract (12m)

Job B - at my current workplace so very similar to what I currently do (I have been offered a role to encourage me to stay essentially!), same grade but slightly less money than Job A, permanent contract, no option to work from home

I am drawn to Job A as it will be a new challenge and a new set of skills (and wfh is nice) BUT I am hoping to get a mortgage in the next year so concerned about the fixed term contract. Am I overthinking it or would that be enough to put you off?

I'd go for B just as a temp job will be a nightmare when applying for a mortgage. It does depend though on the industry really, if you're confident it will lead to better opportunities and that you won't have trouble getting a perm job in the future then I'd have more of an appetite for the risk.

Ask job B if they can match the salary of job A- seems like they are very interested in keeping you so probably will.
I think the 12 month contract only would worry me too much

I don’t think there’s any point in taking a temporary contract, even if it might be made permanent, if you’re aiming to look for a mortgage.

I agree with everyone that a fixed term contract is not helpful if you're going for a mortgage. Could you go back to job A and explain your situation to them, see what they say... nothing ventured etc.
