Does anyone have one of those Quooker boiling water tap things?

I’ve just seen an advert for one and I’m curious.

are they worthwhile? How much do they cost?

how do they work?? Do they not cost a fortune if they are maintaining boiling water all the time?

Haven't had it long. Horrendously expensive, but we use it all the time. There's no way I can justify it, but we all wanted it when we had a kitchen put in, so. Gory details here.

Cynderella · 05/09/2022 21:58

Oh ... how do they work? Looks and works like a normal mixer tap, but it has a metal ring around it. Press once, wait and turn for chilled water. Press once and turn quickly for sparkling. Press twice for boiling.

BuzzBuzzBuzzLightyearToTheRescue · 05/09/2022 21:59

Oh man it sounds exactly like the sort of unnecessary gadget that I’ll soon decide I can’t possibly live without.

Oh I love mine - instant tea

Porridgeaddiction · 05/09/2022 22:00

We got a cheap one for about £300. It's amazing! The plumber who put it in said that it was easier to install than a quooker one. It was from Victorian plumbing I think.

We got it as we have a tiny cottage kitchen so not much room and so not having a kettle on the countertop gives us so much extra room. Plus not having to wait for the kettle to boil is really handy

welshweasel · 05/09/2022 22:00

It’s my favourite thing in my kitchen. Life changing. Very economical but expensive to buy - you’re not going to make the money back!

cathol · 05/09/2022 22:01

We've got one - had one out in the old house and desperately missed it when we moved here. Now have one back in our lives! We've gone for the Insinkerator model both times and love them.

MrsRobinsonsHandprints · 05/09/2022 22:03

Do they make tea taste funny? I've tried the machines that heat one cup and tea is dreadful with water from them.

tenbob · 05/09/2022 22:05

It’s amazing and definitely couldn’t live without it!
I’ve freed up quite a lot of space by getting rid of the kettle and sodastream and it’s so handy for pasta, rice, boiling veg etc so not just something for tea drinkers

And when I had newborns, it was a godsend to be able to sterilise things instantly and make up bottles quickly

I think it costs something like 13p a day to run. The tank is really well insulated so the cupboard doesn’t get hot and it can keep the water hot without much extra heating

downsides… you lose most of a cupboard under the sink for the tank and gubbins
after having it for years, PIL still can’t remember how it works, so when they stay, I get woken up by MIL asking me to remind her how it works so she can have her ridiculously early cup of morning tea (if it happens again, I’m buying a travel kettle to leave in the spare room..!)

TartanGirl1 · 05/09/2022 22:05

It's shite!

Boiling water on tap great but the design is crap. Already had to get a bit replaced and it is dodgy already. Had it 4 1/2 years.

Nice to have but would not waste the money!

MadameCholetsDirtySecret · 05/09/2022 22:07

I've had one for years. I wouldn't be without it.

DutchessOfMuck · 05/09/2022 22:07

One is on my list for when we re do the kitchen. Following with interest.

ShirleyJackson · 05/09/2022 22:08

I love ours. I drink so much more water now it’s filtered and sparking, too.

BarbaraofSeville · 05/09/2022 22:10

They cost more than a lifetime's worth of kettles and you'll no longer have time available to do all the jobs that always need doing in a kitchen while you wait for the kettle to boil - empty dishwasher, take bins out, check fridge, start dinner prep, write shopping list etc etc.

MadeInChorley · 05/09/2022 22:11

I love mine. Very economical and tidy. DH, a massive tea drinker, was very sceptical but claims it’s now revolutionised his life. My mum hates it though - she can’t get the hang of it.

No, they make tea taste great because the water is filtered and then it comes out of the tap at 100 degrees

Non quooker ones are 95 degrees which is apparently not as good for tea, so purists complain about them but I think you would have to be a total connoisseur to actually taste the difference
your average Yorkshire tea/PG tips drinker definitely wouldn’t

Crazymadchickenlady · 05/09/2022 22:15

I love ours. Husband now actually makes tea rather than just saying he would put the kettle on.

Ilovechoc12 · 05/09/2022 22:16

It’s good if you live in a hard water area as it makes the tea taste clean!

I don’t like it when the boiling water comes out it splatters everywhere slight burn spots on your hands / arms

can fill 3 pans of boiling water then there is no more.

replacement filter was £80 and every 6/7 months depending on how often you use it maybe longer ….

I defo wouldn’t want to go back to a kettle!

What brand is yours?
That is an awful lot of filters to get through!

Deguster · 05/09/2022 22:34

I bought it for tea/cooking but actually use it more for cleaning. Steam onto a thick cloth with a dab of Zoflora spray and the kitchen is spotless without scrubbing.

mine does smell if I don’t use it though.

SunsetOverEasterIsland · 05/09/2022 22:38

Not the Quooker one, but we have one in our kitchen. Love it and wouldn't be without it now. No more waiting for a kettle to boil 😀 and don't have to have a kettle on the worktop.

LondonLovie · 05/09/2022 22:40

Had ours since 2017. Use it daily for tea & cooking. In a hard water area. Never had any problems and absolutely love it.

thinking123 · 05/09/2022 22:43

My husband wanted one. I thought it would be a gadget we got bored of.

Nope absolutely love it

QuantumWeatherButterfly · 05/09/2022 22:46

I pushed hard for one. DH unconvinced. We both really love it.

It's is absolutely undeniably a luxury item, but I'm so pleased I have it.

sorcerersapprentice · 05/09/2022 22:47

They had one at work and I really disliked it. I'm a big tea drinker and I'm convinced the water out of it isn't completely boiling hot, so the tea doesn't get brewed properly. I am really fussy over my tea, so bought a kettle! Much better Grin
