New job and interview same day

I’ve recently secured a job and whilst the money is good; it’s not what I’m interested in nor relevant to my career. It is also about an hour away (public transport) and no option to drive (mainly because of distance and driving through london during peak hours would mean it will take almost double the time to arrive).
I also have another interview for another post that IS relevant to my career, will be the role that I have been working towards and I have been looking for for at least 4 years, is closer to home (30 mins drive with free parking) and slightly more money. I have done the first part of the interview (which they seemed to like me, a lot) and I have the second part of the interview which is Tuesday morning; and if successful; I would go in on Wednesday to complete my induction and so on.

I of course would like to attend the second interview (closer job) however I’m unsure how I could if I’m suppose to be starting the job I have already accepted, on the same day. The job I have accepted means I have to really go in on Tuesday to get induction sorted so I know what my role is and what I will be doing, as my first official day would be on Wednesday.
The second job; again need me in on Tuesday as that’s when I would be meeting the rest of the team, other managers and so on.

What could I do in this situation to ensure the first job don’t retract the offer and also ensure I have had a chance to complete the interview for my second job?

Well I mean if you are prepared to lie, call in sick to the job you've accepted on Tuesday? Or call them now and invent a sudden urgent dentist appointment or something for Tuesday AM that means you can't come in until the afternoon (how much induction do you need? Can it be fitted into an afternoon?) - they may of course still smell a rat and terminate you on the spot and you'd have little comeback but that's the risk you take of course. Or you could be a little more honest and simply call and ask whether for (unspecified) 'personal reasons' you could push your start date back until Wednesday.

I have to ask, what is this second job that so urgently needs you to start work on the same day (?) as the interview? Do they really expect people to drop everything in the rest of their life within hours of being offered the job as they expect you to start your induction on Tuesday, the same day as the 2nd interview? What if their chosen candidate already has a job they need to give notice to, or childcare arrangements to make or something, would they literally just not offer them the job? If they like you so much could they not push the 2nd interview back by a day or two?

I would just ask for your start date to be pushed back by 1 day? Should be easy.

My friend had this issue, she pushed back the start date by one day.

But she had signed a contract and when she withdrew her job acceptance they threatened to take her to court. Obviously nothing actually happened but the threat caused her stress.

You lucky thing OP, I'd love a job offer after redundancy. Good luck either way :)
