Does anyone know if foundation doctors can carry out surgery unsupervised?

No, they cannot.

choosername1234 · 04/09/2022 23:24

No, they must be supervised

drquestion · 04/09/2022 23:27

I had surgery which went wrong. Recently I discovered that the electronic notes were missing so I dug out my paper copy. It lists the staff who were present at the time but only mentions a 'foundation doctor'.

No. There should be an operation note written by the doctor who operated.

Surgeons aren’t called Dr but Miss/Ms/Mrs/Mr. could that be it?

Ivegottherona · 04/09/2022 23:40

You need to go through your hospital trust and apply for your medical notes.

Contact PALS online OP.

My current hospital requested my notes but they couldn't be found hence me digging out my paper copy.
It says surgery performed by; foundation dr ' R last night'.
Also present; anaesthetist etc.

Impossible it will be on hospital computer systems. Everything is documented.

Ring PALS.

If the notes have gone missing that is red flag no, 1. You need to be persistent.
