GCSE results day - do you need to be here?

Eldest is doing GCSEs next summer and planning our summer holidays.

Do we need to be in the Uk / home for results day or does it not really matter ?

Thanks

It depends on your child! Mine would have hated to have missed it.

It is a rite of passage but a personal decision as to where they want to be.

Check when you need to sign up for 6th form / A levels / BTECs. Some you need to confirm your place on results day.

Also, are they confident they will get the grades they need?

If both of these ok, then no you don’t need to be here.

If something goes wrong, trying to sort it out by phone/from a diff time zone would only add to the stress.

Our school needs them to be collected by the student in person, otherwise they post them out. So worth checking with your school.

Depends what their next stage uf education is & how likely they are to get in.

even the schools who used to be RIGID on the students being there were happy to email results out this year if the child wasn't able to attend.

but obviously if their grades are a bit dicey you'd at least want full on internet & unlimited phone usage to sort out a 6th form or college place etc.

Sign up dates for the next steps are very limited. We had 3 days.
There was also a form that needed to go back to the school within that time frame to confirm the next steps.

The time from receiving, enrolling and induction day are very tight. Some 6 form places had their induction last Friday.

My DD did gcses this year and on the results thread there was a huge variety in what schools did on results day and what involvement was then needed to sort out options, sixth form places, re-marks etc.
so I think the only possible answer is, it depends. Too many factors for anyone else to answer it for you.

Ds college needed the results that day to sort their courses. Only way to get them was to collect or wait till Posted

2anddone · 04/09/2022 22:06

Ds collected his results this year at 10.30am he went for lunch to celebrate with his friends and I got a call from the 6th form at 1.30pm asking if he was still intending to take psychology a level as the course was getting full and he hadn't gone online to confirm his intention to enrol!!
He fully intended on doing it that evening but apparently that may have been too late!!

It really helps, my son had to change a subject as he didn't have the math grade required for one subject. He needed to talk to his new sixth form about the subject change and was on a waiting list for a couple days. It would have been stressful doing this via email. Also the post results day party was a very important social occasion!
