They are 6 and 8.

I'm going to drop them off and then go home and have a massive nap.

I'm excited.

Mine go back tomorrow, youngest starts secondary and I'm so nervous for her. One in yr 7 one in yr 9.

But as soon as they are out the door I will be too, off to a new role as a class TA instead of SEN 121. I hope I'll be too busy to worry about them both.

The whole phonics scheme changed three days ago. Some of the changes are going to take staff a lot of getting used to!

mathanxiety · 04/09/2022 19:34

It's been many, many years now since mine were in back to school mode, but I used to be relieved to finally get a chance to turn on music I liked as loud as I wanted it and clean the house from top to bottom. Even now, September is my spring cleaning month.

Cannot wait DC starts on wednesday.we are forecast for lightening and rain, not that slightly bothered as long as school is back open.

My eldest starts senior school today, but something has gone wrong somewhere because I simply don't believe that I'm old enough to have a child in senior school.

LeftNotRight · 05/09/2022 06:46

Good luck to all the children going back to school in the next few days.

Mine go back today and typically I've had the worst night sleep. Luckily they have slept well. I also have work today and feel like a zombie.

Thursday is my day off and I plan to sit in silence for a good hour, reading. I'm so excited.

Rowgtfc72 · 05/09/2022 07:06

My 15 yr old dd goes back today. Final gcse year. I work opposite shifts to dh so never did school mornings. I always made a point of taking the first day back off to take a photo, give cuddles, walk her in ( not now of course!)
Told her I was sad this was the last one and she replied " are you not taking my first day of college off next year?"
I'm still needed🙂

JuneOsborne · 05/09/2022 07:09

Completely jealous. I start a new working pattern tomorrow when mine are back. I'll be out of the house at 6 and not back till 7. But, I don't work Fridays, so I'm hanging tough till then.

puddingandsun · 05/09/2022 07:19

I kept waking up all night. I am anxious for my son. He said he doesn't want to go back yesterday.

He starts Year 1.

Fingers crossed it's going to be a good day for him.

BlackCoffeeAndToast · 05/09/2022 07:29

My partner is waving everyone off this morning, I have a job interview first thing. Big day for us all!

NothingIsWrong · 05/09/2022 07:47

I work full time, so not quite as thrilling - but both they and I need to get back into the routine of school etc. Only the 9yo needs actual care during the holidays, but this is the first holiday where I have been working full time in 15 years and it's been... challenging. DH has been used to me sorting and dealing with childcare always, and he's had to do a bit more this year - he's done it no problem, but the sheer organisation weeks in advance really threw him.

Poor darling will cope better next year as he knows what's coming!

TheWildRumpyPumpus · 05/09/2022 07:51

Mine go back today and I start a new full time job for the first time in years so no chance for relaxing unfortunately! Will be nice to have some adult company though 😀 Had a terrible night’s sleep too typically.

Tigerstripes1 · 05/09/2022 07:54

Mine are all back today and for one year only, all at the same school! Youngest starts reception today, eldest going into year 6. Middle one year 2! My school even does straight into full days for reception so I am so ready for a day to myself.

FfeminyddCymraeg · 05/09/2022 07:58

By Wednesday both of mine will be back in school 🥳🥳

I mostly WFH and can’t wait for it to be just me and the dogs - without the constant requests for lifts/money/food/sleepovers 😍

MajorCarolDanvers · 05/09/2022 08:00

Mine have been back 3 weeks.

Me and DH both wfh so our breaks have been much more 'fun' now we have the house back.

AuntieStella · 05/09/2022 08:10

Routine for first day back (or the earliest day back when I wasn't working) was to arrange nothing, make myself a huge vat of coffee, drink it in the garden if the weather was nice, and just be still for a while.

AnxiousMum93 · 05/09/2022 09:02

Boyfriends at work and 4 year old ran to school excited . Now I’m sat alone anxious and miserable. :( I hate this feeling

NewHopeNow · 05/09/2022 09:43

Youngest is Tuesday, oldest is Thursday so I'm still waiting. Going to be brilliant though because she's new job means he's working different hours so I will have the house to myself for the entire school day in a few days! So much to do... and I'll actually be able to do it.

NewHopeNow · 05/09/2022 09:44

*dh's new job

Winterfellismyhome · 05/09/2022 10:18

@AnxiousMum93 try and distract yourself with something and avoid watching the clock Flowers

AdoraBell · 05/09/2022 10:30

Enjoy your nap OP 😁

Years ago when I was in therapy we were living overseas. Summer school holiday was 12 weeks. The entire summer, because it was too hot during the summer months, companies closed- like they used to in France, everyone who had the money went away for 4 weeks and then relaxed at home.

DH’s business with with expats, none of whom understood the locals and their attitude to summer. As you can imagine we didn’t go away for a month. DH didn’t take more than two weeks off. I was left to deal with the twins. So no therapy appointments, which I really needed.

Saw therapist a week after new school year started and was greeted with - you look well (it was a surprise to said therapist) I said, children are back school, husband is away on business I’ve had a week’s holiday therapist chuckled before say well done.

Hope everyone who can have a day/week ^off* once DC are back to school enjoys it.

drumandthebase · 05/09/2022 12:02

DS2 started 6th form college today and DS1 goes off to uni in 2 weeks time.

I can't believe where the years have gone. I remember their first days at school (and nursery) so vividly Shock

MrsFarrell57 · 05/09/2022 15:38

Youngest dc starts school this week. I am a sahm and have older dc. I feel slightly sad as this is my last dc off to school.

However, I am also looking forward to having time to myself. I have a series of appointments (some health related) lined up throughout September and into October. I also have a number of projects I want to work on.

Obviously, I worry that dc will settle into school okay but I feel so excited to have at last got some time to myself. Dc are varying ages so I have always had a dc at home in the day for many years.

Sympathy for those struggling with dc going off to school and feel a bit lost. I felt very much like this with my first dc. This time around, I saw it coming and was able to prepare a bit as I remembered this feeling all too well.
