This was me. And I hated the feeling. Loads of bobbly brown bumps and mini skin tags on my neck. I've just recently noticed that they're shrinking massively and my skin's going smoother again, it's a really weird adjustment but I think I might know what's caused it. About six weeks ago I decided to clean up my diet. I ditched bread, not because of intolerance but because I get hungry too quickly after toast. And I also ditched all processed stuff, kitkats, cake, biscuits, sweet yoghurts, trifle etc etc. I don't think it's a coincidence that my tags are disappearing, I think they're the way our bodies complain of excess sugar. I thought I'd post this in case it helps anyone else. There've been no other changes in my life to account for these bumps going.

Might be worth getting yourself checked for diabetes, they're common in people with type 2 I think. I don't get them (47) but I suddenly got cherry moles appearing everywhere :-( my mum gets them and apparently they're hereditary.

I think you're on to something here.
Years ago I had a huge, painful cluster of verrucas on the ball of my foot and also a very thick fungal toe nail that had been present since childhood. Neither would budge with any treatments.
Then I went in Slimming world for 6 months.
They disappeared. Literally. No joke. I was astounded.

I'm no longer on SW but thry haven't returned in around 5 years. I'm not a fan of SW, nor am I a consultant! In fact I think it encourages very negative relationships with food. But my manky feet got better. So... Who knows if diet does play a part?

Skin tags are proven to be associated with insulin resistance.

^^ what does that mean? I've just paid £50 to have a load frozen off my neck.

I eat alot of sugar.

That’s interesting, I don’t have skin tags but I’m hoping that cleaning up my diet is going to help with other complaints (fatigue and periods). On the neck thing, now I’m in my 40s I massively regret not using SPF moisturiser on it. I’ve always used foundation or moisturiser on my face with sunscreen but didn’t think about the neck area, there is definitely a difference in my face and neck skin aging.

Insulin resistance is when cells in your muscles, fat, and liver don't respond well to insulin and can't easily take up glucose from your blood. Usually caused by excess fat on your body and lack of exercise. Having multiple skin tags is associated with insulin resistance. Also next time buy a skin tag electrolysis pen from Amazon for about £25 and burn them off yourself Grin

I’m a crappy low carb dieter, and I noticed this.
When I stick to keto/low carb they all go, when I fall off the wagon they come back.
I am pre diabetic and really need to sort myself out!

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 04/09/2022 15:14

I'm 30s not 40s but they are also associated with hormonal disorders (that's me!)

That is so interesting.

Before I started intermittent fasting, my knees and ankle ached and I assumed arthritis was setting in, me being 60s. I combined IF with low carb and reducing sugar and within DAYS, I noticed my knees no longer ached as I came down stairs and my nightly reflux had gone. Within days - before I lost any weight!

I know IF helps with insulin resistance, if done correctly, so this is as I said, interesting.

I’m fascinated by the skin tags disappearing and the foot healing - wow! It shows how we poison our bodies, and how addictive those poisons are. And delicious sigh

Dadaya · 04/09/2022 15:17

I got them during pregnancy. I cut them off with nail clippers.

AnnaMagnani · 04/09/2022 15:17

The are related to being overweight, insulin resistance, type 2 diabetes.

Noticing I had a load was a warning to me that I was heading down the wrong path and seriously needed to sort out my diet and weight.

Solosunrise · 04/09/2022 15:17

That is interesting. I had some too and they've reduced since I cleaned up my diet. The link with insulin resistance is very interesting!

OP this is so interesting. I have loads of tags, seborrheic keratosis and those Cherry spots all over my neck and torso. Over the last few weeks I’ve cut right back on processed food and carbs, so will be pleased if this will get rid of some of these too. I’ve noticed my bladder has improved over this period too as I always felt on the edge of having a uti previously.

Bessica1970 · 04/09/2022 16:09

Great post.
I had a few skin tags in my armpit area, so I clicked on your post to see if there were going to be some useful tips.

I started a lowish carb diet (no bread, pasta, cake or rice but still eat potatoes) 8 weeks ago and this week just got into the healthy weight category after losing 18lb.

I just looked and they’ve bloody gone, without me noticing -Wow!

Gives me a new incentive not to go back to my crap, carby diet.

BeautyGoesToBenidorm · 04/09/2022 16:17

Came across this thread completely by chance, and I'm so glad I did - I've had loads of skin tags pop up on my neck the past few months, which I'd put down to ageing, but I'm also pregnant and newly diagnosed with gestational diabetes. Had no idea there could be a connection there!

wheresmyshoe · 04/09/2022 17:28

I have these, they come up and go down, I had no idea they were diet related but it makes perfect sense! Thank you!
