What to do today with child with broken arm?

Hi!
Just looking for inspiration on what to do with my 5yo and 3yo old on a rainy day in West Yorkshire!
3 yo DS has a cast on his arm, which is scheduled to come off this Friday. He uses his arm as he normally would, no pain.
I have avoided soft play but I’m tempted.
We have been to every park in the area, plus it’s raining.
Money not really an issue but I don’t drive so would need to use public transport.

I need to do something, they’ll be climbing the walls mid afternoon if I don’t get them out.

any ideas would be welcome!

Cinema?

Choice4567 · 04/09/2022 09:15

My only soft play concern would be other children knocking into his arm/hurting him.
would they sit through cinema?
maybe go to the library?
We have a small museum in town that has some interactive stuff

NoMoreChubRub · 04/09/2022 09:17

Is it the arm he would bowl with. If not bowling?
What about a Pottery place?

Cinema or a museum of some type.

Sorry, I don't know the area, are there any interactive museums near you? We have a 'past times' one which is very interactive and there are things the kids cat climb on, sit in etc and we're not too far from the Winchester science museum which is interactive (very) and has short films etc.

tricky until you get that plaster cast off (no swimming, trampoline park, I wouldn't go to soft play (I'd worry he'd accidentally bang someone on the head or use it in an awkward way he shouldn't).

can you think of anywhere that's covered enough for them to use their bikes/scooters?

im guessing you've Googled days out near me & tried 'wheretogo'?

hope you find somewhere?

autienotnaughty · 04/09/2022 09:23

I don't know if it's open but Bradford media museum? Or the deep at hull?

ListenLinda · 04/09/2022 09:27

5yo old DD would sit through an hour of a film, not sure about DS as we haven’t taken him yet.
have googled things and it just comes up with the nearby trampoline park, soft play and inflatable place.

We have an annual pass to Eureka!, could just jump on the train, never taken either of them on a train before so that’s an option.

Have asked them both, DD ‘doesn’t want to go anywhere’ aka I want to stay at home and play Roblox all day - not a chance!

I don't know how close or far it is to you (my Yorkshire geography is not good) but we had a great time at the Railway Museum in York. Stuff for kids of all ages.

Marblessolveeverything · 04/09/2022 09:31

I would be cautious of soft play etc they may have a policy around casts. I know around here kids aren't allowed due to "insurance".

Might be worth making a quick phone call to confirm to avoid disappoinment.

mountainsunsets · 04/09/2022 09:32

I suspect he won't be allowed into soft play with a cast on his arm.

Is there an aquarium or anything nearby?

Littlemissprosecco · 04/09/2022 09:34

Borrow a little dog from a neighbour and go for a walk!!

maranella · 04/09/2022 09:34

I wouldn't take a kid with a broken arm to any of those places OP and if I did, I'd expect to get side-eye from every other parent there! Is there not a kids museum, a castle, a river walk or something more suitable nearby?

maranella · 04/09/2022 09:35

Zoo
Aquarium
Arts and crafts place where they can paint their own mug/t-shirt/whatever

autienotnaughty · 04/09/2022 09:36

Or depending on where you are York chocolate story or Cadbury world

artificialhells · 04/09/2022 09:36

You’ve never taken either of them on a train?! Do that then - it’s an adventure in its own right for a 3 year old! Pack some snacks, some games, some books. Read the train map together. When mine were that age we sometimes had whole day trips that were just about the train journeys - we would see how many different types of transport we could use in one day. Find a nice toy shop or bookshop or cafe at the other end and then come back again.

Littlemissprosecco · 04/09/2022 09:37

Blackberry picking!
mine absolutely loved that

ListenLinda · 04/09/2022 09:38

We’re in Bradford.

There is the Science & Media museum, haven’t been there in a long time so not sure what it is like now.
Eureka! Is fully booked until 2pm but still a possibility.
no aquariums or anything like that near by.

I’m usually pretty good at finding things to do but today i’m stumped due to DS broken arm!

Can you get to Keighley or Oxenhope? There's a steam railway that might be quite fun for little kids: Keighley and Worth Valley Railway
